Wearable tech is booming right now but some believe it's more of a fad to temporary middle-ground than a permanent fixture in the tech space.

The founder of fitness app RunKeeper, Jason Jacobs, argues in Business Insider that wearable trackers will only thrive until smartphones and smartwatches reach a certain level of fitness-tracking functionality. The hole they fill, suggests Jacobs, will eventually cease to exist.
