Web Central Station provides the tools to create a full web experience

For many web developers, a full web experience isn’t the important thing — it’s the only thing.

With this in mind, Microsoft has launched a new web portal, Web Central Station, which helps web developers create rich web experiences. Functionality between Microsoft and open source technologies is a focus for Web Central Station, and through its discussion forum, community, events and other resources, Microsoft hopes to empower developers to create great websites that will give their users full web experiences.

In addition to resources for mobile apps with web capabilities, Web Central Station also includes a powerful suite of tools for website creation called WebsiteSpark. WebsiteSpark allows users to download tools like Windows Web Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 Web Edition, but beyond that, it includes training, professional support from Microsoft and further support from the WebsiteSpark community. Perhaps most importantly, WebsiteSpark gives users new business opportunities by giving them the chance to have their websites used by Microsoft’s partner businesses, and also by being promoted through Microsoft’s marketing and networking channels.

Another tool that Web Central Station offers is WebMatrix, a free web publishing tool from Microsoft that brings traditional coding and publishing capabilities together with open source tools to give your website all the features it needs to succeed. DotNetNuke, Umbraco, WordPress, Joomla! and others are all here in WebMatrix, and are all found in its simple interface.
