WebTech Wireless' NextBus to shorten wait times for Toronto's streetcar passengers

Burnaby based WebTech Wireless, a leading provider of vehicle fleet location-based services, announced on Thursday that the Mayor of Toronto, David Miller, and the Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission, Adam Giambrone, launched WebTech Wireless' NextBus technology on eight streetcar lines at an event held at Broadview Station early Thursday morning.

The TTC version of NextBus, known as Next Vehicle System, will allow transit riders to monitor the predicted arrival times of the next three streetcars using any web browser or at transit stops outfitted with digital displays.

Scott Edmonds is the President and CEO of WebTech Wireless:

Imagine never having to ask when the next streetcar is coming.  NextBus helps riders determine when to leave their home or office in time to catch that streetcar or bus - because we provide actual arrival times, not schedules. This is especially valuable for TTC customers facing inclement weather or waiting alone at night.

Toronto will be equipping 52 streetcar shelters with NextBus digital displays this year.  By July all 800 Toronto streetcar stops will also offer real-time arrival information via SMS text messaging.

It will be interesting to see when NextBus will be extended to Toronto's bus lines and stops.

Will this service help you in your daily commute in and around Toronto?
