What should your blood-alcohol level be before Tweeting?

Social networking and stiff drinks don’t mix — but a new Firefox app might be as effective as a breathalyser test when it comes to keeping you from making bad decisions online.

It’s called The Social Networking Sobriety Test, and it aims to keep you from making desperate wall posts on your ex’s profile, trash-talking your co-workers, or even posting embarrassing YouTube videos of yourself. Like this one.

Internet security company Webroot designed the thing, and it’s pretty ingenious. During the set-up, you choose which social networking websites you want a block on and during which hours. If you try and log on during the “forbidden hours,” you have to pass a test; for example, one test, as shown in this non-embarrassing video, involves keeping your mouse cursor within a moving area of the screen. If you fail, the extension posts a status update for you: “I am too drunk to post right now.” That’s embarrassing enough.

You can check out the extension and download it for free here.

Shout out to CNN for finding this beauty.
