When's QNX coming to RIM's BlackBerrys? Q1 2012, if rumours can be believed

Even though BlackBerry OS 7 devices haven't even been technically launched yet, rumours are already swirling over when RIM's "Superphones"—aka BlackBerrys on QNX software—will be released.

The BlackBery Bold 9900 is definitely RIM's best effort yet and should hold the tide over for Crackberry addicts, but those hungering for the QNX platform, which powers the PlayBook tablet, will be pleased to know it could be as soon as the first quarter of 2012.

According to BGR, which claims to have learned "exclusive details" about the first QNX device, that's when RIM plans to strike. Codenamed the Colt, this next-gen BlackBerry appears to still have a single-core chip but is aiming to posesses legendary battery life, although this tactic—if true—is questionable as dual-core is already becoming the standard for new top-end mobile devices, with quad-core only around the corner.

As it always is with RIM these days, only time will tell.
