Vancouver-based telco Telus has signed a 10-year contract with the B.C. government to provide it with a range of telecom services.

The contract is worth $100 million per year, for a total value of $1 billion.

The contract will see Telus upgrade internet connections in rural and remote areas, expand cellular telephone coverage among highways, improve internet in schools with high-speed fibre optic cables, and provide voice, data, and other telecom services to various arms of the B.C. government including BC Hydro and the BCLC.
