whos.amung.us: Over 70 Billion Widgets Served

Posted by Rob Lewis

Over the last year I've been approached by plenty of Angels and VCs asking if I can help them uncover the next big web superstar. I usually just point them to our PEER 1 Canada Startup Index. Whether it be a one man shop like Vancouver's PlentyofFish or a growing under-the-radar story like Kelowna's Club Penguin, our startup indexes have been the best indication of who's going to make it big next.

A stealthy startup out of Calgary called whos.amung.us had managed to avoid prying eyes for awhile but their consistent strong showing on our Canada index has piqued some interest.

whos.amung.us was created to bring you innovative web stats. We are not traditional. Page views are too easy to count. Instead, our widgets tell you how many users are on your website or blog right now, what pages they are on, how many of them there has been in the past, and where they come from - live.

What's really interesting about whos.amung.us is that the Alexa.com & Compete.com rankings that we track for our index are only the tip of the iceberg.

Most people have no idea that they serve 250 million widgets per day and have served up 70 billion widgets to date. At peak times there are upwards of 900,000 simultaneous users being tracked with their service and 725,000 sites are currently using their standard free service. They launched a paid Pro service a month ago and the response has been great with users converting over at a great clip.

On top of that, they have an astounding 41 million incoming links according to Yahoo. So, be on the look out for whos.amung.us.
