Wind Mobile bolsters new-customer incentives with WINDtab, more phones, and new deals

Once Halloween passes, it's officially Commercial Christmas season.

This fact isn't lost on Wind Mobile. The Canadian wireless startup has recently unveiled a host of new features to maximize this season's spirit of spending.

  1. New phones. Wind has added a couple of new phone models to its product line, including the Blackberry Pearl 3G, Blackberry Curve 3Gand LG dLite.
  2. New deals. Wind is offering 50% off most of its plans and addons for the first six months, letting you own a mobile device for as little as $7.50 per month.
  3. The new WINDtab, explained below.

The WINDtab was announced on Wind Mobile's blog a few days ago in a highly promotional list of all Wind's bolstered customer incentives.

windThe WINDtab is virtually identical to Koodo Mobile's Koodo Tab. The same $150 maximum, the same 10% monthly axe. Wind explains it on their blog best:

When you purchase a new handset, you can get up to $150 off the regular price of your phone through a WINDtab.

Once you’re all set up with your phone and service, you’ll pay off your WINDtab by paying your monthly bill. Each month, we’ll apply a credit equivalent to 10% of your payment (excluding taxes and late fees) and apply it towards your WINDtab balance. For example, if you’ve got an Always Shout plan ($45) and Social Mobile add-on ($10), your monthly bill is $55. Each month when you pay your bill, we’ll apply $5.50 toward your WINDtab.

If you're familiar with Koodo's Tab, you'll realize this is an exact copy. How happy will Telus be about this? Personally, I'm a little disappointed. I expected Wind to try and trump a Koodo a bit, with either a bigger tab or axing 15% of your bill monthly.
