Canada's leader in satellite radio, XM Canada announced yesterday that they are close to launching a smartphone app.  Called the XM online+ App, and available on BlackBerry smartphones, the application will be free to download and is a new extension to the existing XM online+ service.  XM online+ will give BlackBerry users in Canada a portable way to enjoy the satellite's unique blend of programming.

The app will be available starting April 12 on the BlackBerry Storm, Bold, Tour and Curve.  Those who are familiar with XM Canada's offerings will be happy to know that XM Canada's full range of programming will be made available on the XM online+ app.

Julie Gillespie is the Vice-President of Marketing, XM Canada:

There are a number of innovative applications for smartphones, making them much more than devices for phone calls or email.  We believe the rich programming offered at XM will make it one of the most popular apps for the BlackBerry, as subscribers are able to take the best music, talk, news and entertainment programming with them wherever they go.
