Yangaroo saves the JUNO Awards upwards of $20K

Toronto's Yangaroo announed today that their Digital Media Distribution System (DMDS) successfully reduced costs and provided an environmentally-friendly method for distributing music and enabling the judging process for The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) in association with this year’s JUNO Awards.

Using Yangaroo's new DMDS 5.0 platform, more than 300 jury and 1,700 Academy members were able to review submitted materials online, eliminating the need for a third-party supplier to collect, manage and distribute in the range of 15,000 physical CDs.

With DMDS 5.0, jury and Academy members accessed the music by either downloading it to burn on a CD or uploading it to an iPod. All promotional materials that were submitted with the music were also digitally accessible. Votes were then cast online in the specific category or categories that applied and DMDS 5.0 provided CARAS with detailed reports of the entire process.

The initial phase of voting for the 2009 JUNO Awards was completed on February 3rd with the announcement of the JUNO nominees and the final voting was completed on March 2nd. The results were delivered to PricewaterhouseCoopers, and will be announced at the upcoming JUNO Awards show in Vancouver on March 29th.

The digital process helped to reduce both costs and waste from packaging and shipping materials across the country and is is estimated to have saved CARAS $20,000.
