Yellow Pages Group launches ShopWise – a free location-based deals app

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the Yellow Pages Group has launched ShopWise, a free location-based deals application for the iPhone.

There are a number of new location-based deals apps emerging in Canada. Earlier this year, we profiled the launch of WagJag Express, which received 30,000 downloads in the first two weeks. 

How is ShopWise different? A spokesperson for the Yellow Pages Group told us that “ShopWise utilizes an unparalleled deals inventory – the largest in Canada – which offers thousands of deals weekly from major retail chain stores to small, local boutiques.”

ShopWise aggregates deals from a variety of sources, including RedFlagDeals.com, the largest deals and coupons website in Canada. Beyond featuring group-buying deals, ShopWise pulls-in promotions and special offers from retailers and local merchants directly.

The Yellow Pages Group claims that "ShopWise is the only app available that acts like a personal shopper." It features “Radar Alerts” which will notify customers if the products they flagged are on sale near them, even when the app isn’t in hand.

Mobile shopping is heating up in Canada. A recent study by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association found that “41 per cent of Canadian shoppers conduct price comparisons on their smartphones.” And “68 per cent of smartphone users have visited a business as a result of their mobile search,” according to a recent Google/Ipsos OTX MediaCT study.

So, we are likely to see even more competitors emerge in the mobile shopping application market in the near future.
