YellowAPI.com helps app developers think locally

Yellow Pages Group, the publisher of the Yellow Pages, Auto Trader and their associated websites has announced the beta launch of YellowAPI.com, the company’s public application programming interface. YellowAPI.com will be open to developers across all platforms, allowing them to stream local search content directly from the well-known business and person database.

The YellowAPI provides access to over 1.5 million Canadian business listings, plus enhanced information like videos, photos, ad thumbnails, and more. Listings are geo-localized for map overlay and proximity search functions.

An important feature of YellowAPI.com content is the high level of authentication, with direct content feeds from Canada’s two largest telephone companies, added and updated on a daily basis. To ensure correct information, Yellow Pages Group’s sales force works directly with businesses advertising within the company’s network of properties.

“With YellowAPI.com, we provide our partners and developers across the country with direct access to our content assets. Furthermore, we provide them with an opportunity to monetize their mobile reach and usage,” said Stéphane Marceau, Yellow Pages’ chief marketing officer, in a press release.

A demonstration of YellowAPI.com and its functionality will be held by Yellow Pages Group at noon on Friday, September 17 at FITC Mobile 2010 in Toronto, part of the annual Mobile Innovation Week event.
