Super Fancy Pants DemoCamp Calgary Recap

It was an exciting night at the Seven Resto-Lounge. More than 70 Calgary's tech enthusiasts braved the weather to see what was going on in the Calgary tech scene.

The night included five demos, announcements on upcoming events, networking opportunities, and a dinner sponsored by Venture Alberta.

The demos were videotaped and will soon be available at the DemoCamp website. So I am just going to include a brief blurb about each demo:

  • Naviblast and Population Control by Steve Gazzard: Entertaining casual games for the Xbox
  • Solidjott by Ben Eadie: Crowdsourced technical support for Solidworks
  • WineCollective by Adrian Bryksa & David Gluzman: The wine experience for the rest of us.
  • Pharaoh 2 by Jon Lam: A hidden object game with an Egyptian theme
  • Video Guestbook by Andrew Hanna: If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video would be worth millions of words

Some of the announcements:

  • Next DemoCamp Calgary on April 28, 2009. Venue: TBD
  • Next BarCamp Calgary on June 2009
  • Next DemoCamp Banff on June 2009
  • The Future of Gaming on March 18, 2009. Venue: Scurfield Hall - Shell Forum. University of Calgary. Time: 5:00 PM

Calgary Scientific brings the future of healthcare to an iPhone nears you

Calgary Scientific, a leader in advanced visualization solutions for medical imaging recently announced its PureWeb Platform to change the landscape of medical imaging. PureWeb enables both Calgary Scientific's ResolutionMD products and third-party applications to be delivered over the web. These applications are delivered with full functionality over a simple web browser (including Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox) without downloading any software or data. Thanks to PureWeb clinicians have the freedom to perform their work where they choose. Patient studies can be accessed whether at the hospital, at home, or anywhere with access to the Internet as you can see in the video below.

Frost and Sullivan, a leading business research and consulting firm chose Calgary Scientific as their feature company to highlight in medical imaging following RSNA 2008 [2]. From a pool of more than 700 vendors, Frost and Sullivan chose to highlight Calgary Scientific because of its powerful portfolio of products  and their vision for an anywhere, anytime web-based future that increases efficiency for radiologists to improve quality and speed of diagnosis through accessibility.

We covered Calgary Scientific back in April 2008 when they received $1,000,000 from AVAC to further its 3-D imaging software for diagnosis and treatment planning. And have those guys kept busy. If you want to know more of what is to come in healthcare Dr. Ross Mitchell from Calgary Scientific will be giving a talk on a CCAT event about The Future of Health Care on April 15th.
