Castle Rock Research was founded on January 20, 1995 with modest goals of helping students in Alberta prepare for their high school final exams. These standardized exams, written by all high school seniors, counted for 50% of their final course mark

We set out to create a comprehensive study package consisting of questions from past exams, complete detailed solutions and effective test preparation strategies focusing on those areas that historically had proven most difficult. Teachers who previewed our first prototype quickly recognized the benefits of the proposed product and committed to purchase the study guides upon completion. Among students in Alberta writing standardized exams, The Key has achieved extraordinary market penetration.
