Cortland is a full service ISP providing wired DSL connections for Qwest & Verizon customers, at any throughput available. We specialize in Fixed Wireless Internet Services.
Cortland's 10 Mbps wireless network utilizes microwave technology to transmit last-mile Internet data, and it currently operates within the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz unlicensed spectrum bands. Connection to Cortland's network is line of sight, and we employ multiple transmitter sites to relay our signal throughout the greater Seattle metropolitan community. A small parabolic or panel antenna is placed on premise at the customer site to establish the radio connection to Cortland's network, and the signal is routed within the building using a bridge or router.
Fixed wireless may be used either as an all-in-one replacement or as a backup connection to a wired line, and it offers a number of advantages over a traditional wired connection:
COST: Fixed wireless is approximately half the price of a T1
PERFORMANCE: Service may be up to six times the speed of a T1.
RELIABILITY: Connection is not affected by weather or accidental outages that plague wired networks.
SINGLE-SOURCE ACCOUNTABILITY: Wireless service controlled is by one company, which means no passing the buck.
TELCO CUT OUT OF THE EQUATION: Single provider eliminates problematic finger pointing between telco and ISP on support issues.
In addition, we have multiple 100 - 1000 Mbps connections to backbones, as well as peering arrangements with multiple local exchanges. Our network, both wired and wireless, is fully redundant with multiple upstream feeds and advanced monitoring facilities, which enables Cortland to find and fix problems before they become apparent to customers.
We are also able to offer a number of related services, such as BGP for dynamic routing between wired and wireless connections and voice-over-IP services that enhance the value of our fixed wireless service.
Cortland has been providing fixed wireless services in the Seattle community since 1996, and remains one of the few providers in the area to offer this unique service. I'd be happy to provide you with additional information about the benefits of fixed wireless Internet service, and answer any questions you may have.

FAQ's
Q. Is it true that Fixed Wireless is affected by bad weather, snow or rain?
A. None of our frequencies are affected by weather - short of 150Mph winds that knock antennas off rooftops. Cortland will operate your wireless system at either the 2.4 , 5.3 or 5.8Ghz range. These frequencies are not affected by severe rain or snow. Now, you DO see rain problems in the 24Ghz and higher frequencies
