GemTeck Environmental Software, Ltd. a joint venture between Gemcom Software International Inc. and Teck Cominco Inc., develops, markets and supports EQWin, an Environmental Data Management System. EQWin is a Windows-based software system designed for managing and reporting on environmental information. The system is used widely for hydrology and hydrochemistry data, as well as many other frequently monitored data types such as air, water, biological, bacteriological, meteorlogical, radiological, aquatic and pesticide data. Its adaptability to many such environmental mediums is due to its flexible data structure and user-definable attributes.

Teck originally developed EQWin for its own in-house use in the latter 70’s and only began selling it to others in 1993. In order to penetrate the global environmental market through a well-established international network, the joint venture was formed in April 1998 and EQWin now boasts almost 200 installations worldwide (South Africa, Canada, USA, Peru, Chile, Australia, Brazil, Ghana and Kazakhstan), including some of the world's largest mining operations. EQWin can be used in any industry where any environmental monitoring is carried out, i.e. mines, landfill sites, contaminated sites, air quality, soil investigations, ground water and surface water monitoring, etc.

The joint venture combines Teck’s knowledge of environmental data management requirements and Gemcom’s earth resources software development and marketing skills to further enhance and distribute the EQWin system. Together, the companies plan to capitalise on the rapidly growing market for environmental products. For Gemcom, the joint venture fits perfectly into its strategy to offer customers fully integrated, modular software systems for all aspects of the earth resources industry. GemTeck is responsible for ongoing product development and, under the terms of the agreement, Gemcom will provide global sales and marketing and related services.

Teck Corporation is a mine development and operation company based in Vancouver BC, and produces gold, copper, zinc, lead, molybdenum, niobium, silver and metallurgical coal from 11 mines in Canada, Australia and Chile. Gemcom develops, markets, sells and supports Windows 95/98/NT software for the mineral exploration and mining industry. It is a Vancouver-based Company with offices in eastern Canada, the USA, England, Peru, Australia, South Africa, Chile and Brazil, and is one of the top four developers in its field in the world.
