Vitrium Systems is a privately-held computer software company based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Vitrium was officially founded, in the summer of 2005, with the goal of creating a revolutionary new standard in electronic document software.
Our team of seasoned technology professionals strives to supply electronic content providers with unique tools for document control and analytics. At the heart of Vitrium's growing range of products is protectedpdf, our core customizable software platform.
Protectedpdf was developed as a technology solution for companies that distribute electronic documents as part of their regular business activities. Primarily, Vitrium's software supplies these companies with tools for maximizing the value of their content.
Our software is designed with a focus on maximum ease of deployment and integration into existing business systems and processes. It is also designed to facilitate the creation of documents which provide readers with quick and seamless access to content.
In 2005 Vitrium released protectedpdf, a Digital Rights Management (DRM) solution for PDFs which offers: an effective deterrent against most instances of content piracy and misuse, a seamless way for authorized readers to access content, with no extra downloads, a range of deployment options that balances the needs for flexibility and usability, and affective DRM for PDF content.
Protectedpdf empowers companies that distribute e-books, research reports, textbooks and other PDF documents to prevent most instances of: piracy and unauthorized sharing of valuable content, and misuse of sensitive or confidential materials.
Protectedpdf provides a full range of customizable DRM features including the ability to: dynamically define, modify and revoke reader access permissions, limit the number of computers a reader may access content on, control the ability of readers to print documents, and seamless access for authorized readers
Protectedpdf enables content publishers to transform their standard PDFs into secure protectedpdf documents. Just like regular PDFs, these documents can be accessed with Adobe Reader, the free PDF viewer that comes pre-installed on most PCs without the need for any plug-ins, third-party viewers or other downloads.
Protectedpdf's unique “page-level protection” technology ensures a positive user experience for authorized readers because it allows content publishers to: secure some pages within a document while leaving others open for preview, provide quick-and-easy access to content via in-document login forms, and flexible deployment for every type of business.
Protectedpdf is a flexible technology platform which can be deployed as a fully customized on-site installation, allowing content publishers to: seamlessly integrate DRM into existing workflow and systems
Create unique DRM features suited to their specific business needs.
In 2008 Vitrium released docmetrics, a web-based application that allows organizations to enhance their standard PDF files (white papers, data sheets and other electronic documents), creating dynamic docmetrics documents which – unlike standard PDFs – are able to include: in-document forms that provide data on who reads content, document analytics technology that measures how readers read content, and in-document forms.
Docmetrics allows users to embed forms in documents to gather reader data, including: demographic information (name, contact details etc), qualifying details (occupation, business needs etc), and
responses to questions (reactions to content etc).
The docmetrics system provides more comprehensive and valuable reader data than conventional web registration forms. With in-document forms organizations can: collect information on “pass along” readers who receive content from colleagues, distribute forms and surveys throughout documents, to gather real-time reader feedback and lead qualifying data, all without impacting the reader experience.

Document analytics
Docmetrics empowers content providers to measure how readers consume and engage with their documents. For instance, docmetrics users can gather real-time data on: how many readers open a document, how many pages in the document readers view, how long readers spend reading each page, prints, etc.
Data of this sort provides previously unavailable insight into the content needs and reading habits of readers. This insight empowers marketers to refine their electronic documents for maximum reader engagement and optimal return on investment. Essentially, it’s like having web analytics software for electronic documents.
