Tom Douglas and Mark Betteridge from Discovery Parks will give their experiences and views about what this means technically, physically, financially and in human terms.  They will address energy management, water usage, air quality, light control, construction methods and materials, corporate responsibility, market pressures and human resource management in this two-part presentation.

Mark Betteridge is currently Executive Director and CEO of Discovery Parks  and the President of Mark Betteridge and Associates (MBA) Incorporated.   Mark has managed Discovery Parks to create high technology parks totaling more than 2 million square feet, making Discovery Parks the largest landlord to biotechnology firms in British Columbia.  MBA Incorporated has managed business planning, rezoning and strategic planning for entities such as Vancouver General Hospital, the University of Washington and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research.
Mark has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Alberta Planning Association Award.  Discovery Parks received the 2002 Outstanding Research Park Award from the Association of University Research Parks—the first time this award has been given outside the United States.  He is currently a director of the BC Technology Industries Association, and former vice-chair of the Vancouver Economic Development Commission and the emerging Greater Vancouver Economic Council.  He is an angel investor in early stage technology companies and a member of Lambda Alpha.
Tom Douglas - How-to LEED: Sustainable Systems, Applications, and Construction Methods
Tom Douglas, CGA, is Director of Development and Leasing for Discovery Parks Trust. He has been with Discovery Parks for the past 11 years, during which time Douglas has been responsible for the development, leasing and sale of a number of research and technology oriented buildings in DPT’s portfolio. Douglas also brings extensive experience in commercial, light industrial and single family residential development, leasing and sales.
Douglas managed the development and sale of the DiscoveryGreen Building.  This 150,000 sq.ft. office building was built on the last development site in Discovery Place in Burnaby and recently received LEED Platinum certification, the highest designation possible for a commercial development.
For one month only, Vancouver Greentech Exchange will be held at Discovery Parks Vancouver, 887 Great Northern Way. Discovery Parks is readily accessible by transit via VCC-Clark skytrain station, and parking is available. March 17th we will be back at SFU Harbour Centre in downtown Vancouver.
What is Vancouver Greentech Exchange?
The VGE is a monthly networking and learning event. Regular VGE features are a presentation, pitches from Greentech entrepreneurs and networking with various professionals, investors, government representatives, peers and more.
Each VGE also includes the Elevator Pitch Contest where selected entrepreneurs present a three-minute pitch in front of the audience. The contest winner receives 10 minutes to present at the next VGE. Application for this contest is included during registration..
The VGE is open to anyone interested in Greentech (technologies and enterprises that create positive environmental impact). Specifically, Greentech SMEs, entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, industry leaders, government partners and supporting service providers will benefit from attending.
