About the Vancouver Greentech Exchange (VGE)

The VGE is a monthly networking and learning event. Regular VGE features are a presentation, pitches from Greentech entrepreneurs and networking with various professionals, investors, government representatives, peers and more.

Each VGE also includes the Elevator Pitch Contest where selected entrepreneurs present a one-minute pitch in front of the audience. The contest winner receives 10 minutes to present at the next VGE. Application for this contest is included in the registration form.

Who Should Attend?

The VGE is open to anyone interested in Greentech (technologies and enterprises that create positive environmental impact). Specifically, Greentech SMEs, entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, industry leaders, government partners and supporting service providers will benefit from attending.

Premiere Speaker Added - Dr. Rui Resendes, GreenCentre Canada

He is an inventor, a scientist and a practiced industry leader. Dr. Rui Resendes’ educational and professional background adds up to a rare combination of expertise, one that has equipped him with the ability to bridge the two distinctive worlds of science and business for a singular cause: innovation.

Dr. Resendes graduated from the University of Toronto with a PhD in chemistry and a specialization in advanced materials. Since then, he has filled numerous leadership roles in research and business development with Bayer MaterialScience and LANXESS. During this time, he has contributed to several patent families and has numerous technical and commercial publications and presentations to his credit.

In 2007, Dr. Resendes assumed the role of Director of Commercial Development, Chemistry and Materials, at Queen’s University’s PARTEQ Innovations, one of Canada’s foremost technology transfer offices. Shortly after joining PARTEQ, Dr. Resendes led the creation of GreenCentre Canada, an exciting new commercialization model that is the first of its kind in North America.

In 2009, he was appointed the Centre’s Executive Director. With more than $20 million in federal and provincial government support, GreenCentre has been named by the Canadian government as a Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research. The Centre works in collaboration with universities and industry to transform Green Chemistry discoveries into green products and industrial processes that can clean the environment and protect our natural resources.

On a more personal note, Rui is an accomplished musician who plays both bass guitar and saxophone and writes and records his own music. He plays in several Kingston area bands covering genres as diverse as classic rock, blues, funk and R&B and from time to time can be heard playing at one of Kingston’s many fine live music establishments.

How to Get Ahead in Federal Government Contracting

John Johnstone
Stakeholder Engagement
Office of Small and Medium Enterprises
Public Works and Government Services Canada

The Public Works and Government Services Canada office helps small businesses understand the federal contracting process, and informs them of the opportunities available to sell their goods and services to the government.

John will be speaking at the VGE in order to get more companies that provide environmentally friendly, or sustainable goods and services to sell to the government, as many government purchasers are required to consider environmental impact when issuing contacts.

'The federal government is a huge market for businesses large and small. As a supplier wanting to sell to the government, you need basic information on how the purchasing is done, who the contacts are and, most importantly, how you can find opportunities.

The Government of Canada is committed to providing Canadians with fiscal prudence and better stewardship of their tax money. It will generate significant savings by changing how the government buys goods and services. PWGSC is also taking steps to ensure all suppliers, regardless of size or location, have fair and open access to government procurement opportunities.'
