Crafting Responsive Experiences
with SIMON COLLISON
Responsive web design is an elegant, landmark approach that resonates with all of us, for we know that making our sites adapt to the ebb and flow of the web and myriad devices is a very good thing. But are we doing it right? With several months of real-world usage under our belts, how are we using this approach? What’s the difference between responsive and adaptive? Is this a silver bullet for mobile? And anyway, were we not always responsive?
In this in-depth workshop, Simon will explore the purpose of being responsive, and juggle the numerous approaches, opinions, and concerns. He’ll demonstrate how to stay scalable; able to adapt to whatever is around the corner. He’ll show you how to prepare the foundations, maximise your responsiveness, and take care of mobile devices. He’ll also explore really creative ways to trigger all manner of wonders with media queries and other mind-blowing marvels.
Requirements: A laptop is strongly encouraged, general knowledge of HTML and CSS, basic understanding of responsive web design.
SIMON COLLISON is a UK-based designer with over a decade of experience at the sharp end. He co-founded the successful Erskine Design which he ran for 4 years before returning to freelancing in early 2010. He’s written a few books and speaks about design and process at events around the world. Simon also organizes the New Adventures events, is working on a difficult new book, and a few ambitious top-secret projects. He likes Vancouver a lot, but hopes it’ll be a little calmer than it was during the Stanley Cup. @colly
INTERLINK WORKSHOPS are small 6 hour hands-on workshops occurring on the first Wednesday of the month. Limited to only 25 people, each workshop is lead by an industry leader on a variety of topics, from practical development methods to creative theory. Tickets available at interlinkworkshops.com.
