How to Build & Customize WordPress Themes
with Jeff Starr
Learn how to create your own WordPress theme from the ground up. Starting with a clean installation of WordPress, we’ll build and customize our own theme, exploring ways to integrate e-commerce, shopping carts, support systems, chat forums, and more.
Along the way, we’ll add social-media functionality with custom widgets, and then flex the design with advanced loops, multiple loops, custom fields, theme options, and more. Upon completion, we’ll have our own flexible, scalable WordPress theme that’s SEO ready and capable of just about anything.
Requirements: A laptop is strongly encouraged, general working knowledge of HTML and CSS, working understanding of WordPress structure and set up.
JEFF STARR is a web developer, author, and educator specializing in web security and building awesome sites with WordPress. He co-authors the book and blog, Digging into WordPress, runs his own design company at Monzilla Media, and shares security and design articles at Perishable Press. Jeff is also WordPress Editor at Smashing Magazine. @perishable
INTERLINK WORKSHOPS are small 6 hour hands-on workshops occurring on the first Wednesday of the month. Limited to only 25 people, each workshop is lead by an industry leader on a variety of topics, from practical development methods to creative theory. Tickets available at interlinkworkshops.com.
