custom built sofwtare or ready to go package?

Hello there,
Can any one give me a feedback regarding the clients preferences when it comes to buy a ready software package or build a custom software?
Every time, we quote on a software project, the client needs to check what packages are in the market instead of building a custom one that will fit its company's needs. Any suggestions or similar experience?

I 100% use open source technology before building something new. Why spend 90% of the budget building something when it's already built, refined, tested and open source?

^^ I agree. Don't "reinvent the wheel" if you don't have to. Plus, product support/upgrades are more difficult to get for customized code.
