The mid-size company I work for is on the verge of purchasing a handful of new servers for our Edmonton location. Our main data center in the US were once HP faithful but have switched to Dell servers over the last little while, they say the service response is much faster. Have already decided against IBM. Can anyone provide me with some insight?
Thanks.

It is all about the service you require when server downtime occurs. Dell offers many levels of support, including 4hr same day response to issues. We are a Dell reseller and provide and support many servers. This week we had a drive fail in a RAID 1 array. We triple checked the backups, called Dell and had the replacement drive in the next day. (24x7 next day onsite support level on a basic Poweredge 840).
We chose to have the part only air shipped to us, not the tech to install though that is an option and very handy when a motherboard needs swapping. The Dell support guys in Edmonton are excellent, well trained and eperienced.
As for servers, the Poweredge 2900 servers and up are fantastic systems, solid as hell and "just work", which is always nice.
Feel free to message me privately or at kelly@foresightforit.ca. Happy to chat more about server stuff whether to exchange information or offer advice.
