Kontera is a big problem with Firefox!

Dear Techvibes staff,
I notice you are now using the Kontera pop-up description ads on posts. Now, I thought it was a novel idea when I first saw it, but the forum immediately started bogging down then eventually locking up and crashing my Firefox browser. It doesn''t effect IE too much, except for having to constantly answer the prompts for ActiveX (due to my own security settings), but I am experiencing complete crashes with Firefox (slightly tweaked), which has started since you have been using the Kontera system, and I''m pretty sure that must be causing the problem (not that I couldn''t be wrong, but it seems to line up perfectly that way).
Now, as I''m sure you know, us Firefox users do not like having to use IE for anything, period, and are not happy when we are forced to compromise our security and use the depreciated Microsoft browser. Not that Techvibes isn''t worth it, but it''s still a pain. :)
Could you look into this, please?
My firefox settings do include certain deviations from the defaults, like network pipelining for faster loading. I don''t know if that might have any effect on this.
Thanks,
Ned

Just a side note...
Firefox for Mac hasn't missed a beat (yet anyway). Although there are often problems with the forum posting (some characters get dropped and sometimes cannot be reclaimed). I thought I heard Mike say they were going to make a wholesale change in the setup of this site in general soon.

Doh! Spoke too soon.
Just discovered a whole folder called "view5003_files" downloaded to my machine that contains all the ad gifs, js, htm and css.
yuk.

If you use Firefox, just install AdBlock and add http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/KonaLibInline.js as a filter. Then these ads will disappear completely.

I Love the firefox. I don't see a single image ad on techvinbes when I surf. Except the text based ones, which I don't find as annoying. I wish I could get rid of them all.

Those ads may be annoying - but they are a big part of what enables us all to use this website (and others like it). It's no different than other services like the television-shows that you really like; or your favorite radio stations.
If you want quality - its got to be paid for in some way.
You may say that I have a bias because I work in advertising - but I am every bit the Techvibes.com user that you are - and I'd personally rather put up with paid-advertisements than pay a general service charge.
On a technology note - I definetly agree that the bugs should be worked out to properly support Fire Fox. I see it as being more and more popular amongst technical people - who are of course directly within the Techvibes.com target audience. There are other problems that I've found; and on a whole I think that it could be improved.

Thank you, Eric! I installed AdBlock, and removed those ads, and now the browser finally works again! Until then, any time I logged onto Techvibes with FF, it would lock right up on me.
This is a big relief... However, it also proves directly what was causing the problem, and that is a scary thing... I'm concerned now at just how damaging this adware program is...

It's not causing any damage, it's the way they put the ads in that causes the slowdown. They use Javascript to parse the text in the posts and change certain words to links. Javascript is very slow at doing this sort of thing. If you have ever used the Linkify addon for Firefox you will see the slowdown happen because is does the same sort of thing.

Hi Ned,
Can you please send a specific URL where you are experiencing these issues?
We are constantly testing TECHVIBES.COM with Firefox and it is working very well on our end.
If, for any reason, your experience is not good, we would like to understand and address the problem ASAP.
Thanks in advance,
Kontera's support team. [:)]

I agree.
I use FireFox and have no problem with the ad links.

Kontera: The problem comes on as soon as I log onto Techvibes, and start reading messages in the forum. After a few minutes it locks right up (at least, it did, before I used that AdBlock).
Here is a list of a few of my about:config settings that have been changed:
network.http.pipelining - true
network.http.proxy.pipelining - true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - 32
nglayout.initialpaint.delay - 0
browser.turbo.enabled - true
browser.cache.memory.capacity - 16000
