Presently sueing cdi college, we have been to court 4 times in the last 2 years. Two separate judges have awarded compensation to me, but the director is blocking CDI main in toronto from knowing the full story. Just this week I was in Sudbury Ont for a pre trial hearing where a mediator was present to attemp to prevent this from going further. The school or the director of the school offered no settlement but i am sure that if CDI main was involved they would have. This school is in breech of the PCC act look it up in google. If I win and acknowledged by the presiding judge...presedent will be set and a flood gate will open. Presently I am trying to find represeatives from Student rights associations and reps from tax payer rights associations. The school taught nothing there fore they deserve nothing...if I win which i am confident I will....all my suit info will be online and sent to any student in Canada that wishes to sue for harrasement, misrepresentation, false advertising ect. get back to me give me your info especially if you are an ex student from cdi sudbury. I have had no luck dealing with CDI main again dealing through the school that I am suing doesnt help. If successful in my suit CDI just with my suit alone will possibly be charged with fraud and breech of the PCC act ...each breech is 25,000 in fines or 1 year in prison. If you feel they falsely advertised or misrep^resented themselves to you especially during the recruitment phase let me know....if you have sued them in the past let me know the grounds of your suit and the out come...thanks...and remember they only get away with this because some students are weak, walk away with nothing and do nothing about it...oh if you were funded by hrdc, odsp, ei, social services ect I would especially be interested in your story....the fraud must end. enfj

I was attending the CDI London Ontario campus in 2007 and oh boy I wish I had found you guys earlier...... I have filed a complaint with California Head Office they tried to resolve and asked me what they could do so that I didn't file a legal complaint. I told them and they tried but the London CDI campus was unwilling to listen to reason. With that I submitted a complaint with the Private Career College Act and they were found in no violation BUT in violation of something else HUMAN RIGHTS! On top of harassment from my teacher and other staff members I was KICKED OUT after I wrote my final with a 92%(and will not give me my diploma) because I have a physical disability and because of the method of treatment my doctor was providing. I have gone to the Ontario Human Rights Commission and recently they changed to a Tribunal so now my application is at the Human Rights Tribunal. We had mediation in November 2008 and now we are going to Tribunal and I have to retain a Human Rights Lawyer. I would be very interested in a class action lawsuit. They (CDI College / Everest College) cannot keep doing this to people and it's time we stopped the B.S they took my $18,000.00 and I got NOTHING!!!!!! Except for being very P.O. I was going through a bunch of these forums and printed off everything I could find and highlighted email addresses. I'm in on a class action I will be sending out emails to find out who else has been burned and we deserve our money back PLUS damages.. This is no laughing matter.

Hi there, I just finished reading your letter and it is a huge interest of mine because I am having lots and lots of problems with my Everest campus which is in Newmarket, ON. I have finished the in class studies for Addictions and Community service work and have bin sitting at home for almost two months now waiting to write or get a date for my final exam. There are five of us that are in the same position and we have asked a number of times when will we be getting some time with a teacher for review and to answer any questions we may have about the exam to make sure we are prepared to write it and we have not even received that. Not to mention there is not even a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel about our placements. No one has even looked at this yet. The only thing they have done is passed us there packages about placement and told us to go find them, which was not the agreement upon signing up for this course. I was going to do this as well as others but we stopped because we paid them for this service or we would have gone to another school and found our own jobs at half the cost of this school. Not to mention a lot of these places I have talked to about possible placements say Everest is a joke and they will not take their students. Some places have asked for a number to contact the school to talk to someone about these placement opportunities in their facilities and have gotten no response from the school so they told me not to contact them anymore. I am pulling my hair out and have had enough. I have not received the education I was promised and paid for and have received next to non of what I was told I was receiving by choosing Everest College when I was in addmissions a year ago. The list goes on and on and I as well as others have had enough and we are ready to take action we just dont know where to start. Could you help us or give us any advice.
Thanks
Amie

I am a graduate from everest college in newmarket for p.s.w..... I am also interested in taking legal action against this so called school..... i still have not received my diploma, and still owe approx.. $3000... i stopped paying them when they were taking the money from my account as well as sending me a bill.. to pay it in full... when i called to find out what this was about, they told me i was not paying and i had to pay in full right away... i told them you will not get another dime from me until you fix this issue.... i had no problems paying.. i was pissed that i was roped into this school by all the lies... but when you are taking money and saying you are not getting it and demanding it if full... and telling me you will not get to the bottom of it... i closed my account...
they are now phoning my work to get the money....
I have also come to find out they charge approx $6ooo dollars for the same course that cost anywhere from $650. to $ 700.00 .... how can there be such a hugh difference in the pricing when you are learning the same thing......
I also watched them take money from a mentally challenged student not once 3 times... when she did not pass 2 other courses from there she took P.S.W.... and was asked to leave half way through.... How can you be so money hungry that you could do this....?
I will never recommend this school to anyone and will find all legal ways to have this stopped.... so anything you can help me with that would be great...

I graduated from the Calgary
CDI College in 2000, When I had y interview with a counselor they said I did'nt need any prior computer knowledge which I didn't. Had I known that it would be a self taught program I would never attended. The program I took was Network Specialist, 6 months into the program they changed the title of the program. There was only 3 people that got a job in computers,
I did get a diploma but it is just a piece of paper that I paid 13000 dollars for and did not get a job, I was told by many interviewers that i did'nt have the required information needed to work in networking.
I would never recommend CDI to anyone, it is a waste of time and money. I asked several of my classmates if they would stand behind me if I took this scam school to court but they all said no.

This lawsuit posting was dated in 2006.....is there a update from this person who is pursueing this venture??
I admire your tenacity and persistance in this matter and hoping that you are still going forth on this matter.
Looks like there is alot of stories backing up the same stories. Unfortunately i am in the same boat of
unsatisfactory education and incompetant supervisors. And having the governnment granting us the loan
and the whole fund goes toward this private school with a degree that is not recognized by our local business
and cannot even file for UIC because the government does not recognize this private school as a legit
college to collect UIC benefits from. but yet...was able to put ourselves in big debt to hand it over to the private colleges. We haven't met any graduates who have a job to which they have studied for. What is wrong with this system and what can be done about it.....so frustrating....as i feel for the rest of the comments that i read.
Hopefully this gathers steam

Just before clases started Server 2003 came out and we were learning Server 2000. After finishing school and paying 28,000.00 I found out that if I mentioned CDI on my resume it was thrown in the garbage. I can not even say I studied there. I am better off telling Employers that I was self taught.
On top of that. When I joined I was told I would get oe certification of my choosing free. I was going to get my MCSE. After three months of the course they had a "Administrative Change" and no lnger offered a free certification."
If there is a Class Action Suit I will be more than happy to go with it. As of now. I have no recognisable education, a remaining 8,000.00 in student loans owing and making $10.00 a hour. o I can not afford to hire a layer to sue this frodulant copmany.

This is scary..
I am researching schools now and have narrowed them down to
Access Business College and Herzing - both which have accreditations by industry standards.
CDI/Everest is in the US as well and there is a huge class action on going right now essentially complaining about what others have said on this thread. A law firm even has set up a page about it - asking anyone who has been duped to tell them their story. The link is:
http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/case/corinthian-college-students.html
and the reply page is
https://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/submit_form.html?label=corinthian-college-students
it does seem to support Canadians.. and it can't hurt.
Apparently this school changes it's name often to "shed" the bad image. Everest has 60 plus lawsuits against it right now and is going to change it's name again. (It used to be Toronto School of Business, then CDI).
Good luck all.
If anyone has anybad vibes about herzing and access let me know, PLEASE!!!

I'm having problems with the campus in Thunder Bay Ontario....
I have graduated with a 95% and I rather enjoyed my classes.
My problem is where is my diploma?
I graduated in Dec of 2008 and I have yet to see anything of my diploma.
I have contacted them several times even visited the campus in person to see what was up and it has now been 7-8 months since graduating. The most I've received was a printout of my marks so i knew that I had passed. Is there any chance I can get my money back or my diploma? Apparently it's sitting on someones desk right now waiting to be signed... for 7 months.... try under the desk...
if anyone there can help with this I would greatly appreciate it thanks in advance.

Have you heard of Reeves College???
owned by the same company that owns CDI (Eminata Group)
9 months ago I was sucked into paying $28,000 for their 2 year Acupuncture program! They told me they were just as good if not better than Grant Macewan, Well 9 months later I am at my wits end! Most of the instuctors (we only have 3) dont speak much english, one of them doesnt AT ALL (fine for the asian students)
and the one that does has only shown up to half the classes and recently quit, NO ONE let our class know that she quit and there would not be class... everytime we would ask about this class we would get " I dont know" or "its your problem i dont know about that class" there are 4 people who work in the admin aspect and none of them seem to know anything about this particular program!!!!! I do not think they have a curiculum at all and they seem to expect us to self teach from text books wich are very poorly translated from CHINESE!!! It is planned that we will be starting in the school clinic in 2 months..... NO ONE in this program should be touching people with needles!!! We dont even have anatomy (that instuctor quit) I need to find a way to get my money back not to metion that I have spent over $6,000 more on buying text books from Grant Macewan and online to try to get SOME knowledge!!
if anyone can help PLEASE e-mail me at j_badach@hotmail.com

I attended
CDI College in Hamilton, Ontario to take the Medical Administration course. I originally applied to our community college (Mohawk College) but thought this would be quicker. I went to talk with the Administrator would said that they have an excellent course that also teaches dental administration that I wouldn't learn in community college. He said that there is an excellent employment rate from grads from CDI. I was sucked in to his recruitment.
After finishing with good grades, I sent out 187 resumes which got me a handful of interviews. I was shocked and quite angry when at one particular interview, the Cardiologist was happy with the interview till he asked where I took my schooling. When I told his it was with CDI College, he told me that it was not a recognizable college and that I should go to community college. I had no chance of a job thanks to CDI and I also have to repay my OSAP on this course that, by the way is twice the amount that the community college that's recognized will cost me.
It's now been 9 years since I took that course and I have not worked in the field of my choice because of it. In fact, I ended up taking a Personal Support Worker course at Hamilton's community college (Mohawk College)and was recruited right away from my clinical. Unfortunately I was hurt on the job and lost everything. I am now on a permanent disability and OSAP is after me for money I don't have. If CDI owned up to a so-called reputation, then I would be working without an injury and making a decent buck with my OSAP paid off. I discourage anyone who wants to take a course at CDI.

I attended CDI College, Newmarket campus in 2005/2006. I was promised "help" from them in securing a job once I successfully completed my course. When it came time, and I graduated, the school refused to help me because I was pregnant. They told me "Come back to us after you've given birth and we'll help you then." So, I did as they said. When I went back to them for help, they said "You've been graduated too long for us to help you now. You're on your own." I was furious! I spent SO much money on this course and am STILL paying back my student loan and it was pretty much all for nothing. I'm working in a retail position now. I have a Paralegal Communications diploma sitting on my desk and all it's doing is collecting a bunch of dust. That makes me very very angry...I've been wanting to sue for awhile but didn't think anyone would be up for starting a class lawsuit. I'm in if you're still doing this. Please let me know. My email is hally_is_a_qt@hotmail.com - make sure you put LAWSUIT

Have you guys seen the *NEW* Truth about CDI College/Eminata group Hiphop album?
There is a remix of some of the songs on You Tube :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swexw_qH6y4
Not only has this school lied about people, but they have allowed racism to go on, turned a blind eye to the students and chased the almighty dollar.
The same people making the hiphop album have a website, political party, stickers, and t-shirts to fight CDI. There is also a benefit concert on the way.
LOOK OUT for the Truth about CDI online store -- pre order "FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS GOTO CDI" t-shirts and hats.
Suing this school is the only thing that makes sense. They won't listen to you when you are going through a problem because it costs them money to make changes. The only time they listen is when they are facing bad press and law suits. MAKE THEM LISTEN!!!!

I don’t know if you saw the Edmonton Global News Trouble Shooters Story regarding CDI but I was the one who contacted them and supplied the information and documents to back up how ridicules the school is.
My teacher was a CRIMINAL with no teaching background. He has been charged for forgery, embezzlement etc. I want to sue but don’t know if I will win. I am still paying off my student loans ($13,000.00) for nothing.
He would give us answers to the test the day before and let us take them home to memorize. He would basically pick a grade and give you that on all courses.
Any suggestions on what I should do????

I went to the Surrey campus, and have now had to involve my lawyer. I am demanding a full refund of my tuition(to be refunded to student Aid BC). I did not agreee to pay $13,000 for a self taught course in web design. My admissions rep told me that the "instructor" would give a short lecture for each lesson to the class, then set us to work on the material. When I asked him how many people would be in my class, he said 7!!! THERE WAS UPWARDS OF 30 PEOPLE IN MY CLASS'ROOM'! all taking different courses. I have exhausted every avenue to resolve this problem within CDI and the Eminata group...the only response I get is that this method of education is highly validated and often better than traditional education. That's a buch of BS, but still not the point, I agreed to something, and it was not delivered. To those of you who think this problem is too big for you to deal with, don't! Lawyers are expensive, and if you're prepared properly, which I can help you do, you won't need one. If you feel more comfortable having a lawyer, then check out Prepaid Legal Services....much cheaper...you get a lawyer at your disposal for $26/month. I have now had my lawyer send a letter of deman to CDI surrey campus, and if they do not refund my money, we are taking them to civil court, for a refund, and damages due to time lost and lost wages that I could be earning. If you have any statements you could provide to me with your experiences with CDI Surrey, I would really appreciate it. Tonydeslauriers@hotmail.com

I took the LAN Administrator course at CDI in Newmarket Ontario in 1999. I was 40 years old at the time. I passed with 83%, but left there with not very much knowledge or hands on work. In the beginning they assured me that I would have no problem getting a job. I had a little part time job after doing office work and they phoned to ask if I had found a job. I told them what I was doing and they put in my file that I was successful in getting employment from taking that course, when it had nothing to do with LAN. They never once referred me to a job which was part of there promo. It was a waist of time and money that I'm having trouble paying back.

I graduated from Everest College in 2009 with an Associates in Business Administrative. I was always on the President's List and received many certificates for Perfect Attendance. When I first meet the recruiter at Everest, the first question that I asked was, "Are their credits accepted at other colleges?" I was told yes and that Everest would find me a job by the time that I would graduate. After I graduated, I had shopped around to different colleges. They all told me that they would only accept less than half of my credits and that I would have to take the rest over. I worked too hard to have to have to take over classes that I have already taken. I studied hard and did all of my work. As far as Everest finding me a job, that never happned. From the time that I started to the time that I graduated, I have had at least 6 different Career Advisors. I haven't heard from them in the last 3 months. I feel like I have been lied to and betrayed by Everest. They con you and tell you what they want you to hear so they can get your money. Financial Aid Advisors don't help that much either. They don't break things down with the loans that you are signing for. I have at least 9 loans that I am paying or trying to get deffered. I didn't know that I had all of these loans until I had graduated. I would be more than happy to join the lawsuit against Everest College.

Hello!
I am currently attending Everest College in St. Laurent in Ottawa, ON. I am taking the Health, Fitness and Nutrition program. Granted, this program is new but for the amount of problems I have encountered with this school I cannot just let this be a plausible reason.
From the very beginning, I first went to see one of the reps in early July of 09 and he had given me all the pamplets and info ( which turned out to be all wrong later). I was very excited innitally, but when I started, the very first week was crazy! not even the receptionist knew where the orientations were being held, or which group was in which orientation... Along with myself, there were 3 others that ended up with the wrong group and pulled out as if nothing happend!
Then there was the problem of shedules... When the four of us were finally in the right class, we found out the most of our classmates had been told that the program started over 2 weeks ago!! my question is WHY the different start dates when we were all in the same class? As for how long the classes are held for I think 4 hours straight is way too long. We ( the class) had soooo many questions as to when we would be getting uniforms, and when we sould be meeting our regular teachers...no one had answers!
I thought this college was supposed to work around MY schedule so why the heck do I have to explain why I can't be in class for a day? For students who are working this is NOT right! They treat us like babies!
I found that if I had concerns and wanted to talk to someone about it, no one wanted to talk to me yet if the college had an issue with you they would be sure to raise a big stink just to get what they want!
I hope you do sue and if yuou could give me any advice has to handle things on my end that would be very helpful! I speak for my classmates as well as myself when I say that this school is not acceptable!

Hello,
I hope someone can tell me how I caqnstart the process of doing what all you other couragous people are doing with suing. I have long thought that is what I needed to do.
I was a student at Reeve's College in Edmontonin 2004 for Medical office assistant. I was promised a great schooling excperience with a well qualified teacher and help getting a placement afterwards. I never got any of those. THe other woman in my group were all struggling as well to provide for their families mostly single as well. The Admission staff were sure sneaky. They knew exacltley what to say to us to think we were going to be better off. THe teacher they brought in was a nurse. No formal training and she came from CDI. Sure she was nice, but we learned NOTHING. My questions were never answered. I spent 4 years trying to get a job as a Medical office assistant. On test she would give the other students answers so that she would look better in giving the students good grades. She was trying to keep her job and we as a class witness it all and evern helped her. I so regret that.
I have really learned nothing from that school and now have paid $8000 ifor my student loans.
Is there anybody else who can help me and tell me how do I do this....
Thank you
Ali

Hi,
So glad I found this. I went to Everest College in Marietta, GA. I had to withdraw for medical reasons. I was told upon withdrawal that my account would be closed and I would owe nothing more.
I got a bill a year later, from Corinthian Colleges, INC. for over $9,000. Close to $10,000. I NEVER received a diploma and have had to pay them because the invoice said it would go against my credit if I didn't. So each month I've been paying them $50, since the beginning of 2009. They offered me a "lump sum" payment of over $4,000, which is still very wrong since I had a doctor's note. They are NOT answering for this and this has made me very stressed out. It will probably take me 4-12 years to pay this off. They want your money and will stop at nothing to get it, diploma or not.
PLEASE contact me so I can be on the winning side of a law suit against them. I need to find some people as well that this has happened to.
I live in Georgia, USA. Could I still be in on this and possibly receive compensation for a law suit?? We have so many people that have been ripped off, or wronged, it's not even funny.
Contact me ASAP.

below is an emai I have sent of to a lawyer in BC.......
Please contact me directly at Keithsd@telus.net....I have a lot more information to help. You and I are on the came page. Most of the students here are on student loan or funded by the government. I'm sure that they would be interested in this or even get their lawyers involved!!!! We are being misrrpresented and not being able to get the jobs that we are being trained for....the ``employers`` do not recognize CDI`s ACSW Program (Addictions & Community Service Worker).

Good Day Mr. Bruce Lemer
My name is Keith Smith and I’m pretty sure I have a case vs. CDI College-Surrey Campus, and the Eminata Group. I believe the college has and is still misrepresenting the ACSW (Addictions & Community Services Worker) program I am presently in. The college ‘sanitized their PRINTED Brochure October 2009 to take out the CACCF (Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation) paragraph. There have been several hundred students who paid approximately $15,000.00 each for tuition and books for this program based on being able to write the CACCF exam. This is false advertizing and the college knows it. That is why they “sanitized” the brochure.
This all came to fruition when I received a reply email back from the largest potential employer in the province for this field, Fraser Health Authority. The “right hand man” from Sherry Mumford( Head of Addictions-FHA), James Fairbanks stated in a reply email to me dated January 22, 2010;
`` Thanks for your resume.
I have forwarded it to the Clinical Coordinator for review. However I think your training is at the CSW level rather than the CAC level.
good luck with your application.
James``
Fraser Health Authority do not recognize CDI as a ACSW program although I have printed
CDI College material given to me by that clearly states that CDI College ``is`` affiliated with Fraser Health Authority and recognizes the CDI ACSW program. Clearly CDI is luring students into their program in using fraudulent materials as well as not having the affiliation with FHA as stated on the attached file.
One more point to consider, a good portion of the students in this particular program are CANADIAN GOVERNMENT FUNDED. Last time I checked, the government doesn`t take kindly to being ``ripped-off``
The difference is that we would be missing out on jobs that we have been trained for and CDI College. There is a and approximate difference in pay scale as to where FHA r
The Level the CDI students from the program ($25.00 per hour) vs. the level where we`ve been trained to ($37.50 per hour) approximate figures(reference the FHA website for exact figs.)
I did some quick math and this potential law suit could be worth multi- millions of dollars.
Would be possible to meet with you or one of your associated to discuss further?
Respectfully,
Keith Smith

I WENT TO CDI IN THUNDER BAY - IT'S NOW BEEN CHANGED TO EVEREST COLLEGE. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! I TOOK THE PSW PROGRAM...LEARNED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF LOGICAL USE THAT IS ACTUALLY RELATED TO THE FIELD. THE TEACHER WAS BI-POLAR AND WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE TEMPER TANTRUMS IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS. TONS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINED...THE MANAGEMENT STAFF DID NOTHING. I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN MY FIELD FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND TO THIS DAY THAT SAME TEACHER IS STILL TEACHING THE PSW PROGRAM. EVERY SINGLE CDI GRADUATE THAT GETS HIRED WHERE I WORK HAS NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT THE COLLEGE...AND NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT THE TEACHER. IT'S A COMPLETE JOKE...THE COLLEGE IS A JOKE! BOTTOM LINE IS...CDI COLLEGE DOESN'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT FOR DOLLARS AND PROFIT - THEY ARE A PRIVATE INSTITUTION THAT OFFERS A HOAKEY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT TO THEIR STUDENTS AND CHARGES THEM A FORTUNE FOR GARBAGE! AS LONG AS THEY ARE MAKING MONEY...THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION AND STAFF THAT THEY HAVE...IT'S ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!

I was a graduate of CDI Hamilton Ontario in November 2005. I too feel i was lied to from the start they told me that i would be placed after graduation and i was not. Little did i know all they did was show me how to do a resume and showed me how to job search which i already knew how to do. When i asked my coordinator she specifically told me i was mislead and that there were no placements. After all of that i am approx. 14 thousand dollars in debt and have tried to get a job through my training and nothing happened for me. I have contacted many employers and was told that they would not hire me and would be able to get this in writing if necessary. Now five years later still nothing in my field of training or what i thought would be my field of training i am as they would say sol! I am trying to get back into school but have no funding. Oh there was one job posting that was given to me it was an outbound sales agent which anyone without education could have applied for PLEASE HELP ME. I hope this is for all of Canada, I live in Edmonton, and go to the downtown campus.
I have one week left untill im finished and noone has helped me find a job, they expect me to do it.
My teacher at the begining of the course did not even speak english. He was let go and replaced with an awesome guy that actually cares.
I am really frustrated with CDI and im happy to know that I am not the only one.

Hi everyone, just letting you all know, I made a claim against CDI. Today, I had my settlement conference, and CDI has agreed to reimburse the full amount of my tuition!
It's over, I won and CDI is going to have to deal with others now coming forth and doing the same thing!

Thanks for posting about this. I only wish I'd read this a year ago. I am now finding myself in a position where I too will likely need to go to court with CDI, for what appears to be identical reasons to yours. I went to the CDI campus in Surrey, BC for their Programming Analyst / Web Developer course.
With all the complaintants, maybe a class-action lawsuit is in order? I am available for such. Contact me via ded.werdz@gmail.com if anyone is pursuing such an avenue. I feel I have been the victim of fraud, having paid for qualified instructors and adequate computer systems with appropriate software, and none of this was provided. I had to withdraw half-way through my course, with an 85% average. I'm not happy.

I am an unfortunate CDI graduate from the Surrey campus.
It's somewhat refreshing to see that this thread about CDI is still alive and well.
I have my horror stories to tell about my time spent at this institution.
I need to be brought up to speed about what steps people have taken in regards to sueing CDI, or at least just trying to come to a mutual agreement with CDI to get our monies back.
I graduated in mid 2005. I have tried to find work, but it's almost like I'm invisible to employers. Maybe it's due to having said I attended CDI, maybe not.
I am presently considering going to BCIT to relearn what I took at CDI.

Hey JustTheFacts,
Sorry to hear about your situation, it's sad to see so many disgruntled CDI students are out there. Maybe you can turn this disadvantage that you think you attended CDI into advantage. Don't mention that you attended CDI if you don't want to, but mention what you have learned, or areas covered and focus on the strengths - there's must be something positive and you've learned something new.
And that goes to all of CDI grads (I'm not one of them) but maybe if you focus on what YOU have gotten out of this school, maybe you'll be more successful - can't be a total 100% waste of money, I don't believe that.
Victor.

Thanx for the reply Victor.
I agree with how you said that perhaps I shouldn't mention that I went to CDI. Truth be told, I removed that info after the FIRST group of resumes I sent out.
I have changed my focus and decided to offer out my hands-on experiences to companies I forward my resumes off to and not mention CDI.
I have applied to just about EVERY position out there that I am FULLY qualified to do, and do VERY successfully...Still nothing yet!
I read somewhere recently that, apparently, this is the time of year for hiring. Needless to say Vic...I'm still waiting.
It's hard to remain optomistic when you find yourself selling your vehicles and think about moving because it's getting harder to make ends meet.
I do appreciate the motivation tho. Thanx.

I live in Windsor Ontario but used to live in Sudbury, just wanted to point that out. I myself am contemplating suing CDI
I am currently attending and experiencing similar issues as others...as well as some that I haven't heard of. I don't think I am going to be permitted to complete my studies there due to these problems. I have maintained very good grades and am still frustrated with headaches from CDI. I could spend hours writing the issues in which I have and continue to encounter with this so called school, however; I would prefer not to do all that now.
Could we discuss some of these issues more personally? I would appreciate knowing what direction is best to proceed with initially. All I wanted is to graduate to sustain a suitable career in my chosen field (I.T.). It appears that their lies and deceit will no doubt continue to make life harder with each passing day, unless something is done. I fear that if I do not take action now, I will find myself unable to graduate regardless of grades and be forced to pay the whopping rip off bill of $17,000 + change, minus a diploma to show for it .
If after reading this you desire to speak with me, I can be reached at: striplay@yahoo.ca
I truly hope you win your case, CDI is not a real school, it is a business, and they don’t care if you succeed. I have come to realize that their main goal is to fill the seats and rush students out again as soon as possible…regardless of your potential.
My conclusion is this: CDI = KEEP OUT!
I hope to hear from you soon & Good luck to you!

CDI really has all of this comming to them for what they charge, say they will provide, then fail on providing it.
I attended CDI, I did learn some things, but it was all because I had to teach it to myself or I would have been too far behind.
I left before it was over and they tried to tell me I still owed them over $5000. So I made my complaint and told them what I would do about it.
Two weeks later they called me and said I didnt owe them anything and they refunded $2000 to OSAP(my student loan). All so I didnt go to the government about it which I still plan on doing because no one should have to put up with CDI.

Hello fellow CDI'ers.
One thing I don't hear much of, aside from everyone trying to sue CDI to try and get their money back, is weather or not there are EMPLOYED CDI students.
Here in BC, it seems no IT employers are remotely interested in taking on an individual fresh out of school.
I have now been unemployed for about a year since leaving CDI. I did have a 3 week temp position, but...nothing since.
I actually had a company offer me a position starting at, get this...,$11.00/hr.($12.00/hr if I had my A+)
Any one else encountering this phenomenon?

Hi I am almost done my paralegal course in cdi Newmarket campus and have been seriously pondering the idea of a law suit myself-- Except I am nervous to do it on my own considering that cdi has done such a ****ty jop preparing me for this field (and I wish that were funny). I am pissed to have to pay $10 000 in tuition and books for somthing I could have achieved through correspondence. I was mislead to believe the areas in which I could practice as a paralegal when I decided to hop on the cdi train. Well did my train ever take the wrong track. I am in my placement at the moment and am suppose to be graduating Oct. 20th/2006 (this month). I am not ready whatsoever! Apparantly, after speaking to experienced paralegals in the field, there are really only three things in which a paralegal can really do on there own. I was lead to believe far more than that. I was lead to believe that students graduating from cdi college are more respected than those from others....Quite the contrary. I have heard that employers would rather a student from Seneca than cdi from my placement officer. I will not stand for this. I do not want to be responsible for paying back OSAP a whopping $10 000 for this self learning crap that doesnt even empahsize on what we truley need to know. In fact, my placement officer pop quizzes me on things which cdi should have taught me, and obviously hasn't, which is crucial in the industry, and I can only reply embaressed......sorry, I wasn't taught that. WTF. Just to top it off, or rather, not to top it off, our campus will not even supply us with a hat or gown to graduate. All in all-- Keep me updated on your suit at mandy264@yahoo.com

Hello,
I would advise you to be VERY aware of the teaching style of CDI college before you agree to go.
First off you must be prepaired to do everything VERY fast and basic. You just skim the surface, any aditional learning you have to do on your own.
You must also be prepaired to sit and read day in and out. The majority of the work you are going to do is going to be you sitting at a computer and typing.
Thirdly, you must be prepaired to feel like you have waisted your time and money because if you talk to many of the current and former students, there is an overwhelming dissapointment with the quality of learning/teaching from CDI.
that said, make your own choice and stick to it.

I really wish I could help you guys out but have no legal skills or knowledge in this area. Only to say I support you guys and feel horrible about your experience. The only advice I can give is that there are a lot of scams out there, always research the school you go to and stick with schools that are known to be reputable such as BCIT. I know they offer IT courses that are short term and will not bankrupt you either. Langara is another good place for IT courses. IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS!

I am currently attending CDI college in London, Ontario. I completely agree with you, and feel I was totally misled to pay $10,000 for a $700 correspondance course. It was just today I made a complaint at the school, that there was no instructors there to help, I was told that the course was self-educated, which is crap because I would have never paid that to sit there, read a book, and teach myself. Unfortunately I feel screwed, as I was funded by OSAP and have recieved the loan in full already and payed off my tuition. I am beyond outraged at the thought I may not be able to find work when all is done and said because the school is neglecting me of the information I need to know in my chosen career. like you said that some people are weak and don't do anything about it, well I don't want to be like that. how do i go about fighting this? where do I start?

HAHA, check this out, I just got it from an unsuspecting online CDI lackey after some back and forth, and me asking for proof of this claim she made in an earlier mail that CDI places 98% of their grads, because they even have a "plaque", (and check out that impeccable grammar)[quote ] Paul:
The only way where you will get all the answers and "proof" if I am telling you the truth is to come to the campus as this is the place where you can not only talk to our Employment Services but see with your own eyes students that have been hired in obviously their field by the time they go to practicum like I mentioned to you before.
Actually the percentage last year was 95% and we have a plaque to show you. Right now after almost a year we are at 98%.
Students go to their practicums in their field, we cannot send a Programmer Analyst to a Medical office so each one through the program will meet the Employment Specialist and by the time you are ready to go she'll know where to send you and where you want to go.

CDI college is a blight to our civilization. They take people that are usually trying to get off the system (welfare, Ontario Disability Support program "ODSP", and other public work programs) Or people trying to better them sevles. Take the money from our Government, that the tax payers pay for, or worse make you pay for it. Like myself I got on OSAP (Ontario Student Assistant Program) Which is a provincial loan, but you can get interest relief if needed, and I think the interest is slightly lower then a normal loan. But its still your money your investing in this bull**** college.
I was in the same class as Aaron the person that had started this thread. I was told that this program was all hands on lectured based and there was reading but not a drastic amount. Which was good for me because I learn through hands on training. I decided to take the program (Program analyst & Web Designer). Now the funny thing is I have an extensive background in computers ( building and repairing) but none in web disign or programming. So i started the course, I think almost 3 months into that program I started Visual Basic. For you that arnt familiar with this program its a programing language to make web sites, or programs. They expected me to learn this in 2 weeks. This is where I drew the line. I went and talk to the admin of the college. I asked her if she could learn a new language in 2 weeks. She told me she couldn't and I asked her how I was suppose to. She replied that I should be' able to grasp it in 2 weeks. I said I'm not paying almost $14,000 to grasp it and told her I wanted out of the program. They wanted me to pay alittle over $4200. The thing is if I dropped this course, ODSP wouldn't found me ever again. So I told them to switch me over to network admin. which was $7500. I started that and it was the same BS as before no lectures and the teachers didn't know what the hell they where doing. (the teachers actually graduated alittle less then a year perior from CDI) At the end of the course I was shy of 1 modals to get my diploma, they where going to let me stay to finish for free ( they charge you if you need to stay longer, but since I was voicing myself they where going to let me stay for free) I told them to stick it and left the college. I went to the court house and filed a small claims against them. While I had to wait the 3 months before I can peruse my claim against them. I had visited Aaron once in awhile at the college. Now here is the funny thing if you have attended CDI you can walk down there halls and see all the people the graduated lately (they had this at Sudbury campus), Although I placed a lawsuit against them my name was still up there, and I didn't even graduate. The last day before CDI could put in a defense to my lawsuit they had a lawyer for there main office in Toronto call me, he was at the Sudbury campus. We had a sit down and I got my full tuition back even my $100 registration fee. I had to sign a contract though stating that I wouldn't sue them, for anything that happened while I was at CDI.
Then Aaron started his case.
All I have to say is for everyone that reads this and has attended CDI college. Aaron has made the problems with the college public and brought it to every ones attention. Through the Internet, TV, and written letters. You guys/gals just need to take action. This Business stole your money. Aaron laid the foundation for all. You just have to stand up for yourself and do alittle lag work and put this school under. To file a small claim in Ontario is only around $100 dollars. If enough people file the college is going to get the hint.
Take care and I hope you guys get your money back.

Network/Security program, quit after dissatisfaction - poor teaching, poor hardware, bug riddled testing system. Will do whatever it takes for these guys to acknowledge the problem we are all sharing.
If anyone has any information on how to go about "false advertising" it would be appreciated.

I am another disgruntled CDI student, who is still paying back the over 10,000.00 in student loans that I got to take the programmer/analyst course which I never finished.
I started out ok, and was able to complete the work and got very high marks, but somewhere along the way I began to lose grasp on the stuff I was trying to learn. I got NO support from teachers there and was told to "figure it out", then when I did go to a friend who was taking the same course, and got some extra tutoring from him (he was a natural at the stuff) I ended up getting an F on a project because the teacher thought that he did the work and not me (which was NOT true)...so I quit the programmer/analyst part, and switched to the web developer course (on the prompting of the student councellor), I got through most of that course as well, then ran into the same problem again, with no support, I got stuck...I could not wait anymore, the funding had run out, i was a single mom, and had to get into the work force...so I took a full time job and quit the course.
I believe CDI is partially what caused my current financial situation, I definately wouldn't owe the gov't 10k if it wasn't for them. They take my GST credit cheques, and all my income tax returns, and until just recently I was a single mom, trying to make a living. I just wonder if there is anything I can still do after 6 years? I'd love to join a class action suit, just to get my tuition back so I can pay off these darn student loans. Oh ya, I'm now working in retail making 12.00/hr doing a job I could have done with NO schooling at all.

I actually had a company offer me a position starting at, get this...,$11.00/hr.($12.00/hr if I had my A+)
Any one else encountering this phenomenon?

anyways I got tired of the BS at CDI College and told them Im going home, I walked out on them right infront of the campus director without finishing the course and paying the pending turition costs.
I told the Yukon grant what happened and Canada Student loans of what happened and my withdraw, yet CDI College still denies my withdraw and now they are threatening to sue me.

Hi Mandy;
I could not agree with you more.
CDI is a major rip off. I was threatened the other day by the district manager that she would not tolerate me maligning the college.
I told her that I didn't need to - they were doing quite well on their own.
Anyway, hopefully we can beat this monster into submission.
What I am apalled at is the selfishness and ignorance of the people that work there. They must have no conscience as they are taking advantage of some of the most vulnerable people in Canada.
Hopefully the government will soon wake up.

Hello, i am interested in supporting this lawsuit, myself and others attending the Newmarket campus in Ontario are also in the initial steps of beginning a lawsuit and would appreciate any former or current CDI student "aka victims" to email me if they are interested in joining this Lawsuit. As we all know CDI offers low end education at an outrageous price and the more and more of us that just walk away broken and upset without doing something just extends the red carpet for the next person who wishes to better their life with education and ends up at CDI's doorstep. This school is no different than its owners is the USA Corinthian colleges whom are also involved in many lawsuits. My email is darrylhutton79@gmail.com. Hello. I'm not sure of the details of your desired lawsuit, but I may be able to be of some service. A PPL Legal Care of Canada Corporation membership gives you access to quality law firms for $26 a month or less. Ask me about unlimited consultation with a top Toronto provider lawfirm with the kind of experience to advise you of your rights in this situation.
You only get as much justice as you can afford. If you don't know your rights, you simply don't have any! The top 10% of income earners can afford to have a lawyer on retainer and are accustomed to asking their lawyer for advice before making decisions. What about you?
With a PPL membership you have access to a top provider law firm:
You know who to call.
You're treated like the firm's most important client.
You are empowered by knowing your legal rights.
Without Pre-Paid Legal:
You may try to handle it yourself.
You'll likely receive as much justice as you can afford.
You may pay hundreds of dollars for ONE HOUR of a lawyer's time.
If you don't know your rights, you don't have any!
"Level the playing field" in the justice system. With a PPL legal plan you can say, "I'm going to talk to my lawyer about this." -- and mean it!
Please contact me for more information at (905) 986-5000 or see my website: www.prepaidlegal.com/hub/4keys

Good for u! I don't know if you would be interested in hearing the hell i've been through with this damn school! But maybe it might help u too! I signed up to CDI last Feb 2006, for the dental assisting program and that was supposed to last for 10 months, it was probably the worst 10 months i have ever had!!!!!!!! i went through un-fair treatment, miscommunication with teachers and students, plus a director who was the worst of them all. My class started with 20 girls and by the end of Dec only 9 were left, of course one of those girls wasn't me! During the second part of the program things happened that even a judge wouldn't believe could happen in a school that has some much populartity. I'm not gonna go into details cause it will take me forever, but things happened like, misplacing our miderms and never finding them, not giving us our finall exam marks untill a month after they were taken! Everyone failed the theory final except for 3 students! One of the students was withdrawn strictly because the teachers didn't like her and that she was a disturbance to the class which was not true! Another girl was withdrawn and told it was because she failed a radiolagy re-write exam (so did I and another girl) but later the instrcutor herself told me it was for other reasons. One girls was withdrawn and told to come back a few months later because our teacher told the director that she made a student bleed in the mouth and in fact it was the teacher that did it and there is a witness to back up the student too! It's so ridiculus my class is planning a class act law suit so if you can give me any advice as to were to start that would be very appreciated!!!

I come by every once and awhile to see if anyone else that had stated they where going to sue CDI has done it yet.
To fill you in, a class action lawsuit against CDI wouldn't work, you would loose. Its already has been tryed and since everyones experience at the school was different and there cause for sueing wasn't for the same reason as everyone elses they lost.
You people would have to go out and do your own leg work.
Oh just to fill you in the guy that started this post won. he got $5000 dollars back. "Remember EI paid for his schooling"
so that's $5000 for his time CDI waisted. If you paid out of your own pocket and sued you would get all your money back. But for some reason you rather try a class action lawsuit. Maybe you guys desereved to be screwed over by cdi [:0]

Greetings,
My name is Sharon and I like many of the past and present students of CDI College, Newmarket we are pissed off and are not going to take it anymore!!!
We have contaced A-Channel, City TV News, Greg Sorbara, MPP for Aurora/King/Vaughan and Julia Munro, MPP York Region North. We have also been speaking with Ron Grisbrook, Ministry of Private Career Colleges that oversees the portfolio and has the authority to "pull" the license of CDI College. We need to flood the fax machines, e-mails and voicemails of the above individuals to show them just how serious we really are about this issue!!!
CDI has given each and everyone of us the impression that we have no voice, no rights and no power. We say, let's show CDI College and any other public/private college for that matter, that when we are paying for your asses to be in those chairs teaching us or doing your "admin" thing, that makes US YOUR BOSS AND YOU ANSWER TO US!!!
May I make a suggestion to any and all dissatisfied CDI College students, is that we now start to network, having a central contact person(s) for each CDI campus and at some point coming together, on mass, to have this Corporate Bully answer for their conduct before the media and/or the government. We have an opportunity, right now to start to contact each other, gaining strength in numbers and possibly going forward with a "class-action lawsuit", wherein we would have to hire the very best to ensure this Corporate Bully is held accountable and financially responsible for damages dones and expenses incurred.
I invite anyone who wishes to stand-up for what you believe to be unacceptable on any and all levels, to contact me at pawsnmaw@rogers.com. However, before you do this, I would ask that you start to compile a very detailed Statement of your experiences with CDI College. I have been advised by Ron Grisbrook, that if this is to go as big as we think, written statements must accompany any and all verbal complaints.
I also invite someone from every campus to set up that central contact person(s) and get this started A.S.A.P.
A group of us at the CDI College, Newmarket campus have already put this into action. Ron Grisbrook of the Ministry has scheduled a meeting with ourselves and CDI to come to a resolution about CDI's conduct on February 7th, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. Also, we have contacted a class-action lawyer, Darcy Merkur, at Thomson, Rogers, and at this point, he is of the opinion, that this is a "minor" student issue and not a "MAJOR" student issue. However, I have been advised that if we can prove to Darcy that this is a MAJOR issue (more people need to contact him) then he will seriously consider it.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, people, if you want to be part of the solution, then put actions to words and get on with it. As I keep reading in these messages, everyone is offering their support but there is no real cohesion amongst the lot of us. Let's get it together and go after what is rightfully ours. JOIN THE DISSATISFIED STUDENTS OF CDI COLLEGE, NEWMARKET.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you.
Keep the faith,
Sharon

Hey I just read your post....well sad to say but after reading all the posts yours seems the only one with a real back bone. Remember there are alot of upset CDI ex students and present students not using tech vibes...there are dozens of sites. I sued I won. It made national news and after all that and responding to hundreds of emails forwarded by the terrific team at CTV and Whistleblowers. What else happened. NOTHING. On a class action suit...good luck. personal advice, make sure all those involved have experienced the same thing, smae class/school..ect. On a personal lawsuit level how many on here instead of crying(help help what do I do) get your ass to a small claim court and pay 100.00 and fight. The problem with creating a rep at each school...the student is only there a year or less.
As far as the PCC Act it is a farce. At no time did the ministry of education the ministry of public works ect none of them cared....its all politics. I went to court 3 times to get my money back and won each time....presedence has been set....use it. Hire a lawyer and mention my case LAFOREST VS CAREER DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE Ltd. Oh by the way sue under that name ...not CDI. I proved in court that the school falsely advertised, missrepresented itself, and was guilty breaching contract. Keep every thing you see with CDI on it, it is all usefull in court. The lies they told and the proof of the lies I showed. And I only scraped the surface of this.
Of all the people that have sent letters and emails ect I am only aware of 2 other students that have filed suit. One settled out of court and the other a student from Montreal but no word yet on the last. What CDI is grat at is making money..this is a publicly traded business COCO.US. The lawyer in court tried to crash my case by trying to make the court see this as a school...until I informed the court of the ticker symbol...this is a business in Canada and bound by all the consumer protection acts. READ THEM. You only have to prove one act to win. Even though I won my case...the school in no way compensated me to a satisfactory level...I am considering an additional lawsuit on the grounds of slander and libel/defamation. CORINTHIAN sent comments of my lawsuit to media outlets in canada who then made Corrinthians comments public to me for response. LIES LIES LIES, the kind that deserve an additional lawsuit. The statements were unfounded or were here say,,but from whom...funny I had the assistant director and my IT teacher on the stand and their under oath testimony does not corrilate with the Comments in Libel from Corrinthin and CDI main office.
The first Question I asked the assistant director on the stand was WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ME . the answer was not the same as the one given to media. so lawsuit.
OH AND CDI OWES ME PRE AND POST INTEREST ON THE LAWSUIT THAT THEY DID NOT PAY.mmmm
So sue sue sue, get back what is yours, dont ask demand and everyone hit the court house, flood the media, and now that I won I will attack the PCC ACT to be enacted to the fullest extent. I even proved that just because an instructor works at CDI and is approved to be employed there from the ministry...doesnt mean the teacher is qualified or that the ministry(PCC) even checks. Dont trust the ministrys they are already aware. Good Luck yell from the roof tops.

I am also a graduate from CDI....I was looking to go much farther with my education and much to my surprise, I have just found out that not only did I teach myself by sitting infront of a computer all day with no teacher instruction, The education that I thought I had turns out to NOT be recognized by public colleges and universities, so the time and money that I spent is nothing but a huge waste. I was taking the Accounting Program to start off before continuing to get my CGA.....I also found out the the CGA of Canada also does not recognized CDI.
I am completely stunned that they can live with themselves knowing that they are fauding people....all they care about is getting thier money.

Personaly I wouldn't get a lawyer, unless your planning on taking them to superior court. Also I would recommend filing each claim seperate. A group of students already tried a class action and since there experiences and reason for suing wasn't the same as everyone elses they lost. Have your friends/students attend you in court, to testify about cdi. Make sure you mention on your claim the names of the people going to testify against cdi. Having them write a letter to the court to explain there experience at cdi, isn't good enough. The lawyer from cdi will/can get written testamonies thrown out. They need to be there in person. I'm going to explain why i'm telling you to file seperate. Five of you file agaist CDI seperately, That's 5 seperate claims CDI will have to file a defense on. They have 90 days (3 months) to file their defense. If they don't file a defense then you get to explain to the judge why your suing without CDI to defend themselves. Now say the first person sues and wins, the next person sueing can mention the last judges decision in there lawysuit, saying they ruled with so and so againt CDI. Try to keep it in small claim court, when it goes to Supperior court everything costs alot more. A small claim court file is $100 dollars, You wait 90 days then if they file a defense you have a sit down with the person repusenting CDI and a senior lawyer to see if you can come to some type of settlement without taking it to court. If that doesn't work out, then you pay another $100 and a court date is determined. And you explain your case in front of a judge.

Your experience with CDI is typical of the type of scam they get up to . For the small amount of money involved , your best course of action is Small Claims court (this is what I am doing though for a rather larger amount of money)
There was a fairly straightforward misrepresentation so you should have a good case.
You will however need to locate the Small Claims website for Quebec and become familiar with the process.
All the best in your battle with CDI.
BHUTAN
PS You will find SAP training quite expensive. Like OrACLE SOFTWARE, training in these skills are controlled by the respective companies. I suspect few of the community colleges/universities in Canada teach either Oracle or SAP.
However if you do get real experience in either Oracle or SAP , it will make you highly marketable.

wow You guys saved my life + a lot of money...
A month ago I went on their website and ask for a brochure. They started calling me every day.A month later I decided to meet with them to see what they had to offer, that was last week, they totally had me convince that it is what I needed.Yesterday, I went to meet with the financial planning lady to apply for a student loan. She barely know how to do it. Im an out of province student so I had a special section to fill and that section was not functional yesterday so the lady ask me not to fill it and to provide fake information so I can skip that section. I refused to do so. Then they made me sign a bunch of paper saying that I wouldn't sue them for this and for that, they made me sign a bunch of them and they didn't gave me the time to read them so I found that sketchy. I went home and had a weird intuition, like I felt like the student loan website was down for a reason, a sign maybe, lol...anyway I started making some research that brought me here...Im definatly not going and im happy the student loan website was down cuz otherwise I'd be in debt right now of 12000$ for the legal course that wouldn't lead me anywhere...
Like how professional can a school be to ask you to provide fake information to the student loan programm.

I am a recent grad of CDI college Barrie Campus (Med Lab. Tech Program) and i would just like to say that i am sorry about all your experiences, but mine was very good. Ive always heard bad things about their technology programs, but every program they offer other than the tech programs are actually lecture classes and give hands on experience. i would recommend my campus to anyone..... and i just got a job, too.

Wow, so glad I found you guys, I was thinking of going to CDI through Northern Lights/ EI. Sounds like it's not a great idea. I'm happy I found you.
I have to laugh at some posts though. You are upset that going through all this training gets you a $10 - $12 an hour job? Have you looked in the ads lately. Only thing getting you more than that is to be bilingual. I've been looking and that's the offer for University grads..sorry to burst your bubble. Oh and the PPL post...My aunt got stuck with that Prepaid Legal...not a great idea. It too is a do it yourself project. But hey...your decision..

Come on guys and gals you can do it....get out there and tell your friends and family about CDI. Maybe you have already, but do it again....then as this happens(spreading the truth nation wide) watch the stock fall(corinthian stock ticker=coco.us) I brought enough attention to this ordeal and on this thread I dont see any additional titles stating SUEING....all I see is I may or I will be, or I might...sue. Do it what are you waiting for, contact the police if fraud is occurring...if you see pirated software from the school....keep it and send it to the manufacturor, keep notes of wrong doing ect. HEADS UP> I bet your teachers are not even qualified under your provincial ministry guidlines....I know for a FACT that the campus I went to ....the majority or just the ones I have verified did not meat the minimum qualification stated by the ministry. IF your instructor that never instruct went to cdi before being employed by CDI I bet your teacher doesnt qualify....your teacher must also have a 24 months experience minimum...working in the field of the course they will teach. My teacher was a cashier at a computor store before being employed to do nothing with CDI. I f you have any brochure that says hands on lecture training...use it to sue for misrepresentation....all CDI websites state that CDI offers lecture and hands on training...if you havent recieved this ...SUE. REMEMBER...this is not a school...this is a business and as a business you are protected under the comsumer protection act....one breach and you win...any breach and you win. I sued I won, and I never paid for this course...well according to EI I paid for it..the money was granted to me by the feds I paid taxes on the grant...claimed as my income. Get it together folks...spend 100 to set a court trial in small claims court if you win and they dont seem to be paying....I have all the info you need to garnish this school...ie banks dealt with and acc numbers of CDI's to garnish.

NOV 30, 2006: An update on a CTV Whistleblower story we brought you earlier this year, about a large Canadian private college, CDI.
One of their former students, Aaron LaForest, had sued the college, claiming he was misled and didn't get the computer education he signed up for. LaForest has won his lawsuit. CDI has been ordered to pay him $5,000 in expenses and damages. The judge said he agrees with LaForest -- that CDI did not deliver as promised.
CDI sued successfully by Toronto Student!!! This link takes you to the article.

If anyone gets their money back then great...
BUT, I think the old addage "Buyer Beware" applies here.. know what you are getting yourself into..do some research.. ask former students of any school how things went for them.. did they learn what they were supposed to?, Did you find emplyement in your field??
You just can't put your trust into any school these days and expect them to " take care of you". The onus is up to you to get what you pay for.
A school is a business like any other business..

Hi everyone!
I finally search the net and find something about CDI College.
ere is my problem: i when to CDI a few yrs ago, after attending school for about 2 days i decided to drop out because it turns out to be false advertisement. Now after two yrs i received a letter in the mail saying i am in collections for owing tuition (which i wasn't aware of) and i now have bad credit. I know i am responsible for not reading the fine prints, but how do i get my credit rating back? i cannot afford bad credit at the moment i am too old to wait for 7yrs to get back my credit.
To everyone out there who are planning to go on to CDI College please ppl do not waste ur money, save it r give it to someone who really needs it. small size classes doesn't exist at CDI, if u want small size classes go to public college, and i guaranteed u you will get ur moneys worth.

Well I sure am glad that I decided to research this a bit before my wife signed her OSAP papers 3 days from today. After reading all this bull about CDI I certainly am stopping her from signing. Just wondering what they are actually going to charge us now. She already signed the contract from CDI but has yet to sign the OSAP papers. Does anyone know the consequences/ $ charges for doing this?

I am so surprised by some of these comments. It is hard to take people seriously when they gripe and swear in public postings, makes me wonder where the real problem is. I guess some people might have had a bad experience but that was not the case for me. I loved my instructors and the program frankly I have never looked back. My company has hired a number of my classmates as well. I always thought education, your career and your experiences are what you make it. I can't say that everything was perfect, but neither was my experience at the community college I attended or my high school was just ok but heck I have to tell ya my experience overall was a good one and my education at cdi gave me what I need and wanted. As I say not everything was perfect and I have made few mistakes myself along the way but going to cdi was not one of them and frankly I have never sought to blame others or my school for things that have not gone as well as I wanted. As I say I think these things are what you make of them.
Anyway, I don't make a habit of responding to these types of things but I was upset that people would seek to slam my school that in my view did right by me and right by everyone I know who attended my school. It was hard work, and there were some students that were not able to cut it but for me it made all the difference.
Hang in there,

To whom it may concern:
I am writing this letter to explain my experience at CDI College Windsor.
When arriving at the campus, I was a little concerned about attending a private school as I was unsure of what to expect. I had been debating if I truly wanted to attend the city College or University instead. After speaking with CDI recruiters, I felt as though their program had more to offer. I was interested in web design, image manipulation, and programming. After doing the research, I found that St. Clair College had a good Graphic Design program, however; their Programming department was lacking. Windsor University was the exact opposite; Programming was good and not Graphics. The CDI campus explained that there was a program offered in their school that had the best of both worlds. This class was called Program Analyst Web Developer or P.A.W.D. for short, and would eventually become my choice for education.
Despite my skepticism, I enrolled solely on the advice of CDI staff whose promises created great appeal. Blind to my own naive nature at the time, I found myself having high hopes for the future. As the school weeks passed, the students and I realized that there were many reasons for concern. The promises were found to be lies, leaving us feeling exploited. Where were the lectures? Where were the teachers? Nothing guaranteed during the initial registration process was found. Occasionally there was a teacher in the classroom but never for very long. Being one of the very few enrolled in my specific program; even when the teacher was there, he was unable to help. The teacher assigned was primarily for Network Administration programs, and knew very little of programming itself. As a result, he was unequipped to assist me in any questions I may have. I’m sure you can realize that this was extremely irritating.
During my initial conversations with the recruiter, I had made sure I was clear about certain things I required in an education institution. Several times I had asked if the classes were taught daily, with yes as my reply. If I had known that things would turn out as they did, I would not have enrolled, and CDI was well aware of this prior to the signing of any documents. As the months passed having minimal assistance, I saw many students removed and drop out. All the students were so appalled with the occurrences, that outbursts were frequent. These outbursts usually consisted of complaints regarding lack of teachers or unavailable equipment. I myself was also frustrated with unavailable software for extended periods of time which eventually put me behind my schedule. (I will explain this in more detail in a moment.) The students eventually decided that enough was enough. Complaints were made to the director and eventually head office. When no helpful response was given, every student signed a petition highlighting their concerns and sent it to head office. This petition also addressed concerns about my specific situation due to its originality. The students were angry that a fellow classmate (me) had an issue that was not being resolved. The school year was passing quickly and I was in dire need of software for two separate modules. I had complained about both for nearly 3 months each. The books for these modules were to learn the applications Photoshop CS2 and Flash MX 2004 for the Graphic part of my program. Although this petition caused some changes such as teacher availability, it was no help for me. Explaining the situation to every student and faculty member had little effect and I too at this point have had enough. Being told there was nothing that could be done forcing me to simply wait until the software became available was unacceptable. These are the type of books that require the software to complete. Though I was reading and trying to accomplish the consumption of some knowledge during this time, without the software itself I would be unable to perform the tasks required throughout. One of the two books did have trial software available in the back, however; I was not allowed to use it due to the rules CDI apparently had to adhere to. It was explained to me that only Microsoft certified software was to be installed on the campus computers. For a school apparently bound to rules and promises, they sure broke a lot. Now completely frustrated beyond control, I found myself in the director’s office. Present was the class teacher (“T”), assistant director at the time (“S”) and of course the director himself (“N”). After explaining the situation yet again and threatening to obtain a lawyer if action was not taken, “N” and “S” (sitting side by side behind a desk) decided that the best option would be for me to obtain the software myself. Furious, I explained that these were expensive programs and the only way they could be found to my knowledge for free, would mean they are pirated. I then expressed that this was not my responsibility and this idea made me feel uncomfortable. They then said that if “T” (standing beside me) didn’t have a problem with it then they wouldn’t. Of course, “T” immediately refused to allow anything of that nature. I don’t blame him; his job among other things would be on the line. To be honest, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing myself and was wishing I had a tape recorder present. My idea to skip ahead to the next portion of my course was immediately rejected. To maximize learning potential, there was a strict order that needed to be followed, or so they say. Not knowing what to do they promised to figure something out and asked for my patience. As “T” and I left the office, I noticed “S” and “N” whispering about something. Moments later, “S” pulled me into her office and offered me a rewritable disc to put this pirated software on despite my concerns. WOW, I really couldn’t believe this but definitely accepted the disc anyway for evidence. Clearly they weren’t knowledgeable in computers, and didn’t realize that a single disc would not be sufficient. I quickly ran down to the classroom to explain the situation to as many people as possible just in case. The appalled students became enraged and started complaining daily on my behalf. Shortly after, conveniently more issues would arise. “S” was fired for negligence and I was called to the office. I was then informed that I am behind in my schedule and would have to write a letter to O.S.A.P. requesting continued funding. Again angry, I wrote the letter and risked expulsion by installing trial software for the applications without permission. One as I said was available in the back of the book and the other luckily was found to be available online. Several months later still without resolution from CDI, I had completed Photoshop and Flash, yet am once again frustrated with issues. Called into an office I was informed that my schedule had been incorrect the whole time…so much for that strict order I needed to follow. Missing several books I now found myself having to pay out of pocket to obtain them. Keep in mind, I’m a student and can barely afford to survive at this time. Finding the funds was a very difficult task. The schedule issues would continue three additional times until they would finally be corrected. These issues would thankfully only be with the order so I wasn’t required to purchase anything else.
Praying the torment was over; I completed many other modules without any assistance from CDI. Of course the issues continue though. Called to the office once more, I am surprised to learn that O.S.A.P. has again refused to fund due to being late on the schedule. This is an issue CDI accepts responsibility for when speaking to me. I received multiple apologies as they explained how funding is not within their control and if it was; they would allow me to continue. I asked them to explain to O.S.A.P. what had happened, and that my studies are nearly complete. Refusing to take any chances with their funding, even if it’s due to their own negligence, CDI had left me with their only suggestion. So here I am alone in my issue, nearly finished a program provided by a school unwilling to take responsibility for their mistakes. Still owing $2,196.50 I am forced to work and pay prior to completing as my bank account is garnished for the little money I have. I am also constantly hounded by creditors who threaten to destroy my credit if I don’t pay in full immediately. Broke, sadly I am unable to comply.
I will have paid over 17 thousand dollars for a self taught education. This is not what I had in mind when searching for proper post secondary education. Paying all that money for a book list just doesn’t seem fair. Honestly, everything they provided I could’ve done on my own without the anxiety. I now find myself abandoned by CDI with this unresolved issue, and could really use some help. What would you do if you were me?

CDI COLLEGE SOON TO BE EVEREST COLLEGE IN 2008!!!!
Guys I'm just flat out frustrated, I've just reread all your posts, and I have to say it doesn't surprise me. I'm not a person that appreciates fake character and when you go into the Barrie Campus many of the students here very high pitched voices when you go in. Like Sweet Valley High voices! You don't expect to be pampered, but you want people to talk to you in a professional grounded humanly tone.
When I signed up for the Network Admin course vs. many other choices, one of the key selling features at the TORONTO SCHOOL OF BUSINESS in 2002 (Now CDI, soon to be EVEREST), was their
'FREE Lifetime Upgrading (or Retraining is what they're calling it now)'. I was told as an Alumni / Graduate, I was able to come in and retrain and upgrade skills for FREE whenever I decided I needed this! Being in the IT industry skills / Certifications / Designations / Operating Systems / Security are ALWAYS upgrading and changing, therefore this sold me on the program. I graduated in 2002, did this Retraining in 2004, and decided since I have a few weeks of free time, figured it was a good idea to do this now!
I didn't need the whole course obviously.....Only two modules. I filled out a form, last Thursday, after REFERRING another STUDENT to the Medical Office Admin program....and received a phone call stating that the 2 - 80 hours modules were going to cost me $1,280 EACH + TEXTBOOKS. And that the Campus Admissions offer was surprised because she wasn't aware that it would cost this. What the hell? I hope this was a mistake, because that's complete garbage from the money that I've already paid for the course....I apparently am the only one that has busted my tail to be certified on my own as an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) something that takes hours and hours of studying on my own, is this how they treat the only MCSE designate (if thats a word) in the 'X' amount of years they've been running this program?
I thought I respresented the desired student!!! Take their basic education, really ground and pound and work hard on my own, get certified (through my own pocket!), WORK, and stay on top of things such as the latest skills and education!
- I did sort of feel it was more of a Self Study School, although I was graced by God to have an outstandingly knowledgable IT instuctor / Network Administrator.
- Even some of the staff is grounded (WITHOUT the high pitched Sweet Valley High voices).
- I did feel a little of the 'Hung out to dry feeling' once they got my money
- I did understand and feel a little of the Hung out to dry feeling when one graduates from CDI, although again, I was blessed having the Instructor I did. I did hear quite abit of turnovered impressions from students in other programs.
- I still to this day RESPECT the school....or business.
HOWEVER, this process is utter crap. And apparently just because they're changing their name to Everest gives a school (Ooops...sorry , from a previous post....) A BUSINESS a right to change their policies for alumni and graduates? Maybe it actually does.....I wonder if anyone knows legally?
They're pretty smart people, and I'm sure that they have watchdogs on forums like this, which is good, and if not, perhaps an email would be great to staff in every campus. I had a few fallouts with a previous campus director, but in all honesty, I was okay with the knowledge I received from my instructor....Her job is to be HardAssed and it's about stats and dollars, being someone that's had experience in the business world, I understand that....so overall my experience at CDI was 'Okay'...
I would like to think that all these changeovers that they've done AS A BUSINESS is for the better, and they're ridding the spiders that all these rumours and actualities of disgruntled students from previous CDI / TSB processes are bringing to this table.
I really hope the information they just gave to me was a mistake, because maybe with the month and change of time that I have waiting for my next contract, where I could be productive, I'd hate to be the one spending that time sending out emails, copying these forums and links regarding CDI / Everest PROCESSES (Not just schooling), and dropping occasional flyers into the basement lounge of a mall this campus occupies. Not to ever defamate the school because I always respect an institution that helps one better themselves as a human being in a tough society....but I believe current & future students are entitled and need to know EVERY OPINION from previous grads of the College.
I don't believe a link to the CTV website showing them about a school being sued is what is desired by a school. I do like think the school, I think the shortened & focused learning is a great thing for the right student....however shortchanging students is NOT Welcome and having an Alumni Offering denied to be because of a process change within the same business will NOT be tolerated.
Any response can be emailed to abovethaborderbrotha@yahoo.ca
Thanks for all your time people.

i had the same thing happen to a t i was conned in to signing up for the program analyst course started out with the first teacher was good and i was getting 95's then for 2 months she was never around then after 4 months she quit the next guy had a completely different teaching style and many started falling behind at the 6 month mark i was getting 50's if that from 95's i was morally beaten and then ended up needing to go for surgery and needed around 4weeks to recover and they kicked me out when i returned i was too far behind they said to continue with out paying them for extra course time and that it would be better if i looked at a different path in life. the computers we were using were severely outdated running windows 95 they were teaching us a 10yr old computer language getting us to make very crappy almost windows3.1 programs if not dos simplistic counters ect. because of cdi i went in to a deep depression i felt like the biggest failure and still to this day have those feeling i really thought it was my chance to succeed and instead im 10,000 in debt have had no tax returns gst checks ect. have now started occurring interest on it as well so its around 11,000 now im a single dad and freelance artist so i dont make much and to have that kind of debt over my head threatening phone calls its dystroying my way of life if anyone here wants to go about a class action lawsuit im right behind you i think i will be attempting a lawsuit as well if the person who was successful could mail me or msg me with any info i could use it would be great full thanks seth syntheticlamb@hotmail.com

Hi I believe I got scammed as well...because once I graduated I headed overseas to work. Recently I have decided I want to go back to school, so I applied to a few Universities in Ontario. I sent them my diploma and transcripts and they said they require more of a course outline on my transcripts from The Toronto School of Business-Ottawa Campus in which I attended in June 2nd/2000. So when I tried to phone and email The Toronto School of Business-Ottawa Campus they didn't answer and I tried other locations only to find out, via researching on the internet that they changed to CDI College. So then I begin my task of trying to email and phone them, and once I clicked on CDI Colleges home site, I was automatically transferred to Everest College which it has become now. So since June 2nd/2000 in which I graduated, it has changed hands two times. I spent 5,000 CAD for a 1 year intensive program offered at other colleges for ( 2 years ). I was told by them, if I hurry and finish everything in 1 year it would be the same as doing this Travel & Tourism program offered at other colleges. So I did that, and it turns out it isn't even a 1 year diploma it's only 9 months.
Can someone help me?
I will be back in Ontario Canada by August 1st.

Hi i had attended the South Edmonton Campus, They are trying to screw me around on 3500.00. When i started there and signed the contract the woman that i dealt with was soooo pushy and i was not sure about starting there, she gave me 2000.00 off my tuition, so i said sure, and i got another 1000.00 off from the gov and then 1000.00 off when i finised the program, WEll i did i wrote all my exams and Funny they went missing when the fire happend, CDI is trying to fight with me and they have sent my file to collection, CDI is out to screw anyone around. The owe me money but they are going to try and cover the ass as much as they can. Its sad we go there to help and better ourselfs and we just get worked over and end up more in the ground.
So for everyone out there Think twice before attending CDI!

I was a student of CDI in Halifax NS. I was taking the Programmer Analyst course. They taught me absolutly nothing, I wasn't contacted for orintation because they forgot, so I was quickly told everything on my first day of class. They handed me books and told me to start reading and follow the exercises on my own. There was no teaching or instructor lead classes. If I had a question which I did because I was new to Programming, I had to sign it to a piece of paper at the front of the class and when they had got to my name they would answer my question. The instructor was lousy, and was more confusing than anything. From what I hear they have let him go recently. I told the head person at the campus that I could not learn in this conditions. They took $2000 from me and I was only there maybe a month. The campus Admin that enlisted me told me a bunch of false information, and I come to find out that he is not even there anymore. This is only half of what took place. I want money back, I had to switch schools which screwed up my student loan, lots of headaches. It could have all been prevented if they would have not given me false information. Now the school is called TEC instead of CDI college.

HAHAHAHAHA! Private school(20 marks off), For profit(20 marks off), bogus accreditation(20 marks off),basic level courses and materials(20 marks off),no job found after 5 years of graduating(20 marks off), lied to me and other students(20 marks off)..that a total score of -20 for CDI!!!!!
I am a "grad" of CDI aka Everest college and the "modules" are a complete stinking joke. The teachers I had were, well, strange. Thats the only way to put it. Many of them former grads of CDI itself. Its NOT accredited properly and its a private BUSINESS. If I would've known that going to anything private was bad I wouldn't have. But they got me at the right time. Down on my luck, bad job, no where to turn and whammo, I enrolled. The director started out by telling us of jobs we could expect to get once we graduated. She actually mentioned a place up in Elliott lake where we would manage mine workers or something, for 6 months a year, for 60,000 dollars(a place that they had connections to supposedly, they just wanted CDI grads?!It was complete BS!). after hearing that, I was in. But the courses were SOOOO lame, grade 11 high school stuff at best. But, oh yeah, I forgot, "employers were always coming here looking for grads", and " we gotta act professional when they show up"...no "employer" EVER came to that dump. Having been a student at a university for two years the content of CDI was so lame and abysmal, words cant describe it. How are you supposed to get a career with sub-par skills and LOW-LEVEL curriculum. I was useless to the marketplace. I applied to 350 different places and I received not a single call. In my area of "study" that is. Sure I got offers to work at retail places and fast food joints but nothing related to what I took, NOTHING. People were dropping out left and right as they could smell a stinker. Unfortunately I gave the place the benefit of the doubt and got burned. When the courses were over they told me I hadn't completed a certain module needed to graduate(some stupid resume class that I DID complete) after arguing with them they finally gave me that illustrious piece of paper so that I could wipe my butt with it. I asked the director about the contact info for the "Elliot lake mining" job...and she went blank. Had no clue what I was talking about. Yeah! They also have a bogus hiring rate number they use in ads and I think they just recently got in trouble for making the stats up. Taking anyone of their grads who got ANY job(fast food, retail, janitor) and using that to say 96% OF OUR GRADS GET HIRED AFTER GRADUATION. Its all sneaky, bull crap. The guy who they hired who was supposed to find us jobs never did. I think ONE(read:only) job they found was 2 days a week for 11 dollars an hour as a secretary, for some little local company(awesome business job!). It was expensive both monetarily and time wise. I lost out big time and took a huge blow to my ego. I felt like a fool and was embarrassed having been there. To top it off, ironically, the big graduation ceremony was held at the local University(they rented a conference hall), many of us didn't attend of course. Its like a pre-school graduation ceremony for adults held at a proper institution where we should have been in the first place, lol. The lessons Ive learned are this. If the school advertises on tv, has a 1-800 number to call, is a PRIVATE institution, offers the ability to complete programs in less than half the time of a regular school, and is located on the third floor of a scummy building, its safe to say you'll never find a job when you leave. CASE CLOSED! Just type in CDI sucks on your browser and watch how much stuff you find, that says enough, word of mouth....avoid, cdi, devry , phoenix etc, if its private its a dead end......

Hey, not sure if anyone uses this board anymore but about 3 and a half hours ago i was kicked out of the Law Enforcement Program of CDI Newmaket. I'm looking for anyone with problems regarding Admin at your Everest Schools, Attendance practices, or general bad experiences. Personally I was removed from the course due to "Attendance Issues", this is because the admin is unable to keep a proper attendance log, or follow through with their own "dont let that stop you from coming to school" pre-enrollment peptalks. If anyone has some issues they would like to share, including what they were able to do about it, they ould be greatly appreciated (the more e-mails I get in my inbox the more I have to go to bat with). My meeting with the regional director and a lawyer is on Thursday September 4th. So please send them before then ;) Thanks very much and good luck with your individual situations.

I'm sick of all their tv ads. During the day on stations that show talk and cop shows, they advertise during EVERY commercial break, sometimes more than once in the same break, WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Go out of business and die Everest College!!!!

CDI CALGARY SUCKS ASS.
All the teachers there are very discriminitive.
I sat with people whom we all had the highest marks in our class, and i missed a class because i was sick and the teacher rambled on to the class about how i would never make it in the 'real world' and how i would never find a job, and if i did i would be an embarassment to the school.
Guess what you prick? i make more money then you now. And i found my job without the promised help from CDI.

I went to CDI in 2003 and took they Lab Tech course. I got pregnant during the course and my instructor was mad when he found out. Making comment that "if people is not serious about they career they should not be taking this course". I end up finishing my course with a finial mark of 59.9 % and the passing mark was 60%, I had ask for a rewrite and got the same mark again no difference which was so strange. Few months later I got a call saying that I owe them $212.00 for my CPR Course, my respond was why wait so long to ask me for the money after you guy fail me. They respond was they have nothing to do with the marks, but they want they money my respond was when you give me back the $8000.00 that the government give me for the course. Then I will give CDI the $212.00 for the CPR Course until now I have not receive another call. I think that this school was a SCAM and is a SCAM and the government really need to look at these school records in regards to how much people they really so call fail.
