New Version of Techvibes
Tue, September 5, 2006 3:07 PM
Hey guys - we just received an irrate email from a Techvibes member saying how us ignoring this site was disgraceful etc.
I wanted to apologize personally for this. We do have a developer (Pat) working on the next version of Techvibes.com that is built off the latest version of the clubZone.com platform. it has hundreds of bugs fixed, tons of new features and functionality... and is a lot fasters, with better design options.
As some of you are probably already aware, we had a bit of a split in the company in January of this year where our CEO Lindsay Smith has moved on to run the Massive Tech Show on her own. The show is no longer a part of Techvibes.
Our company, myZone Media Inc. is going through a transitionary stage this year and hopes to be able to put more resources back into the Techvibes community in the new year. We''re expecting a new site launch before then though, and there is still a decent amount of search engine traffic breathing life into the site.
Any questions - feel free to post them here!
cheers,
mike

Thanks Mike,
We're still reaping the benefits of a lot of hard work it must have been to set TV up in the first place, bugs or no bugs

You know, you can save yourself a lot of time and work if you simply switch over to vBulletin.

To the Techvibes Team: Techvibes has a lot of potential, Just get creative with the re-design and add features that you would use yourself.

It seems that TechVibes has always played second fiddle to Clubzone, T.V.'s sister site. I guess that is where the income is and TV gets abandoned. Oh well, what comes around goes around. Good Bye.

I gotta say Im a bit amazed at some people from Van, wheres the backbone??? You notice a useful friend in trouble and you run a mile. Techvibes has been going for a while and it's a shame theres some people trying to do it down and not show their support. Mind you it's possibly just the unfortunate few who have such negative attitudes, good luck techvibes I hope you guys do well and I for one am sure to post again....
Cheers
Marty.

Beats me. I mean, TechVibes is free and I don't think admins are required to "babysit" this site 24/7, especially when Mike mentioned that the site will be undergoing improvements. I think it's more important that we have the opportunity to network and have fun and there are mods (like me) who deal with spam to make the reading of other threads for members more convenient.
And, while as a moderator I am concerned about the views of the members and try to accomodate them to the best of my ability, I personally don't see how some minor glitches (like inability to see threads in Firefox) can, sadly, make people leave.

I agree with Marty.
Techvibes has taught me so much in the past year and I will continue to post and frequent this site. I'm not saying to ignore new forums and developments but people should not be asking every new member to join other places right on the discussion forum. It think that Techvibes deserves better than that.

I humbly disagree with Marty, Victor and Jeanette.
All of those members, who were very loyal to TV for a long time and are generally very kind and intelligent people, have a backbone, have positive attitudes, and have perfectly good reasons for their departure from TV and their promotion of Tazzu.ca as an alternative.

With all respect, I joined TV in hopes that networkers would meet networkees, and have multiple opportunities to solicit trade with like minded people with similar sized businesses. I find that, though I'm brand new to TV, this might bring out some honesty amoungst its most loyal and go back to the networking, in addition to the booming business of promotion.
Some people just need to network, they are shy or otherwise; thus giving an online outlet for that expression is very important. I had the opportunity to volunteer at Massive Con and was a very important event for me to be apart of. I was able to meet Reps from Faronics, Rogers, Robert Half et al (many more businesses that I've managed to get intouch with). THANK YOU!!! TechVibes!! But alike the Con, we can not stop, their is too much talent, too much knowledge that can be learnt.
Changes are great, new members, etc. I do hope that both communities, while being seperate, have similar values (networking, friends, networking, and even more friends).
Thanks for reading, Sean

In the beginning, before my time here, T.V. was great! had organized meetings, massive, a great staff!
then they spun off to their club vibes, had an internal argument and off shot club zone.. and T.V. was neglected 100%. It became Flooded with T.V. sanctioned adverts and spam in the forum and inbox. Then certain members showed up just to agrivate the ccommunity and send threatening and offensive emails around. There were also a ton of bugs that were never fixed, and a handful of active Moderaters with no 'real power' behind them, being restricted by the absent Mods.
After a LONG and PAITENT time of this, one of the best mods here left and started up the other site, and since all of us followers have been very happy and active. There has been no spamming or negativity. Suggestions are all sriously considered, and everyone is welcome.
Now you have the choice: Ignorance or compasion.

LOL. Speaking of compassion and acceptance. Imagine a store where you go window shopping, maybe bying something, and telling other customers to go to another shop, do you think the staff will let you hang out there for long? No! They'll tell you to take your business elsewhere.
The reason why I like this site is precisely because it allows you to pour out your thoughts, without any reprecussions or banning you. A pure democracy AND acceptance regardless if you are potentially hurting the business.
I wonder how much I'll stay on that other site if I stop by and tell everybody that there is a better site with more networking opportunities.

The issue is that TechVibes makes it's money off the community. It uses the topics of conversation and subjects covered to drive search engine traffic to the site as well as generate relevant ads for visitors to (hopefully) click etc. The community makes TechVibes it's money, attends it's events, helps TechVibes attract advertisers and sponsors etc. In exchange the community has somewhere to hang out and network. A mutual relationship.
However, if the community itself is crucial to making money and that's a key part of your business model, show some interest in it, participate and help nurture it. Don't just abandon it and expect there to be no lashing out... the community did their part for years, but it was TechVibes who stopped doing their part in the last year or more.
I have been a member for many years, but in the last year I've hardly even wanted to contribute let alone visit because of how chaotic and unmoderated it had become. It's wasn't enjoyable or practical anymore.
Maybe Techvibes can turn things around in time, but we will have to see. In the mean time, there are other options. And yes TechVibes can simply build a new community, but that takes time.

It's a mutual relationship. Techvibes makes money off of the site and in turn we network, make friends, and possibly find a job. If you ask me, I think it's a good deal since what we can get out of it is potentially far greater (a job, a friend, maybe a future partner) than what TechVibes can make.
The portion of the community that's hanging out on that other site owes to TechVibes, as I understand it, for being created in the first place because it's TechVibes where they've all met and got to know eachother, I know I have. I don't think it's fair to criticise TechVibes so much, especially when TechVibes has brought us together (at no cost to us) and provided opportunity to look for work and network. And I really don't see what it is that stops us from continuing to do that. How can presence or absense of administrators "online" affect that?
Victor.

I agree with you Victor. I am a member of a photography forum and although I don't really participate much I do notice that there is very little admin going on. It is the members of the forum that keep the forum alive. So with Techvibes. The members will make or break it.

It isn't the minor glitches or the spam that caused most people to leave Techvibes.
I myself am a moderator here at TV, and it is the lack of communication from the administrators to the moderators when there are issues at hand that made me throw in the towel.
Techvibes became an unpleasant place to be with some rather disgruntled and offensive users and the administrators neglected to deal with them even after many moderators and users begged them for assistance.
If TV takes a turn for the better with the new version, I might be back but until then it was fun while it lasted.

I've not posted anything here regarding Tazzu for many reasons, however, it's time to say something.
Lee, I don't think it's fair to compare Techvibes to a sinking ship, or call one who has chosen to network at both forums a rat. I'm sure this was a joke, but the timing is questionable.
For the record:
Tazzu was not developed to compete with Techvibes, but to provide one more networking option.
Many people are members of both sites. This seems to be an intelligent move for one who's livelihood depends networking.
Tazzu is relatively heavily moderated. It does not depend on 'hits' to survive, which has it's pro's and con's.
It is governed completely differently: by members for members, and may not appeal to everyone. Likewise, Techvibes may not appeal to everyone.
I wish all the best to Mike and the members of Techvibes. It sounds to me as though really good things will be coming out of this for everyone.
As always - a friendly neighbour - Jen.
