Why won''t XP Home upgrade to XP Pro???

I have XP Home with SP2 and I am trying to install XP Pro with SP2 and I am getting an error message that the version I am installing is older than the current version installed. Then it fails to install further. I read that you can try removing SP2 from XP Home and then install XP Pro but there was no option to remove SP2. I got XP home as part of my Toshiba Laptops install CD with its specific drivers.... This one has been bugging me for 6 months now. Has anyone out there found any solutions to this?

From everything I've read, and cutting thru the BS, it appears that if you simply MUST have XP Pro you'll need to do a fresh install.

Backup your data, reformat your drive, and go at it!

Good Luck.

agree fresh install of xp pro is the best just something about ms products that fails when they try to work together.

Thanks so much, I did do it and now everything works fine. I needed XP Pro as a very important program I was installing needed it.
