Techvibes.com is for sale!
Tue, January 16, 2007 9:03 PM
... yes it is sad, but true...
After about 5-6 years in the online world, around 50 special events, 42,000 members, a few million visits, 31,000 posts... it is time for Techvibes.com to move on to new owners.
Our parent company, myZone Media Inc. has been neglecting this site for over a year now, and we're actively seeking a company to take things over. The website is for sale and includes:
a) domain name
b) source code, licesnse to use within the high tech vertical
c) upgraded source code from clubZone.com
d) 90 days of hosting
e) all content and database
Please note that the sale of the website will require the new owner to uphold the existing terms of service that we have with our 42,000+ members.
Interested parties must be near or above the $100k CDN mark and can contact me direct at mike at club zone dot com for more information (Google Analytics, Financials, etc.).
Quick summary:
Traffic: 3,000 to 5,000 unique visitors per day, pure SE traffic
PR 7
42,000 members
aprox 1,000 new per month
$5000-$10000 per month in revenue
Little to no expenses
Source code is 100% owned, but use would be restricted to the high tech vertical (not to compete with other myZone media properties, ie: clubZone.com etc.).
No outstanding legal issues

Unfortunately this is all just part of the tech industry. I've been doing the same job for 4 years and have had the company I work for acquired 4 times. The name keeps changing but the job remains the same. Technology wouldn't be as exciting as it is if it wasn't for fast change and a little volitility. Good luck to the techvibes team, Lindsay, the new techvibe owners, and all the members. I'm sure we'll all still be around, sending the same messages, on just a different platform. Ah....technology!

You still have to provide the members with an option to be able to Remove their profiles from your database.
Also, if you're going to be so choosy about your potential buyers, why did you put this site for sale on eBay? What if you get a bid much higher than your proposed one from some marketing company? I doubt very much that you will refuse the offer.
Who's in your opinion "some random spam marketer" and who is a legitimate one?

... of course we'll take the highest offer, but the buyer won't agree to purchase the site if they don't like the terms, and the terms of sale will be to not strip the site down and use the database for spam marketing reasons... so if that is what they have in mind they legally won't be able to do that. There will be strict terms of sale to ensure that the people that take over the site uphold the terms of service and don't abuse our membership.
Or if you have any better suggestions let me know [:)]. I'm open.
cheers!

@Victor - our public profile doesn't include our emails, Techvibe's database - does.

Techvibes should have been sold or abandoned a year ago...
Just look at all the posts beneath this one ( from the Forum menu ).
In the last eight months, it went from mediocre moderation to no moderation. From promises of better venue, to the slums of hell itself.
I wish good fortune to all the Techvibes owners and staff. Don't make this mistake again.

Agreed the site has been in limbo for a long time now... which is why we want a new owner to take things over and give it an overhaul. The technology platform from clubZone.com is quite advanced and is included with the sale. The main benefit of the site is not the current forum traffic which was never really existant at all to start... the real benefit is the potential of using the search engine popularity, the strong brand awareness, and the technology platform to turn the site into what it was originally intended for: a way to connect people working in the high tech community together; a niche market social networking platform.
Our company is too consumed building out clubZone.com we realized we just don't have the resources to handle more than one website right now... I hope that someone can take this one over for us.

Strange that you mention that. Spent some time with our lawyers today which deal specifically in this arena and posed that question. I believe it is section 18 or 20 (long meeting today) that allows such a transaction to occur. Due diligence has be put in on both sides re: a sale and yes, a whole business, intact, can be sold.

Geesh, well whoever complained to eBay - it worked. They removed the listing saying that it was illegal to sell a database of personal information.
I was actually planning on removing the eBay listing this morning anyways because we've had so much interest and most of the inquiries require a fair amount of due diligence... so I don't think an eBay auction would work unless we were able to provide a lot more information (financials, access to analtyics etc.) to the general public.
So while the eBay listing has been removed, Techvibes.com is still open for sale to the best offer... please contact me directly mike at club zone dot com.
cheers!

Either of you actually considering buying this Rathole?
No offense, Mike... but Techvibes doesn't actually have a great reputation any more... except among spammers.
Within a month of being sold ( and I don't know if it has been yet ) this site will be the laughing stock of tech forums. It's just about there now.
Life sucks... then you cut your losses, eh?

Agreed - I still come across Techvibes all the time when searching on Google for anything related to Vancouver + Technology. So it's only a matter of time before this site regains its glory.
