Hi all, if you work for FIDO or other service provider, please read:
I''ve paid 100$ and signed a 2 years contract with FIDO to have a Motorola V400 last March. The phone died in maybe 5 months (couldn''t turn on any more), then a CSR told me to go to the store, they''ll replace it. They did. Then after 3 months the buttons of the new phone stopped working, I went to the store complaining, but they''ve replaced it again no questions asked, so I''ve said ok. Now the "new" V400 they gave me died again. I can close or open the lid, the phone is not responding. I''ve called Motorola to give me an advice, they''ve suggested to call FIDO customer service. So I''ve called their customer service, but the agent wanted me to buy a new phone, so I''ve asked for a manager, then the agent hang up on me. I''ve called back, the next agent said a manager will call me back within 24 hours, of course never happened. I''ve called back again, the next agent told me, that she doesn''t see any notes about requesting a manager. Anyways she said they can''t give me manager. She also said, that there are no notes indicating that my phone was replaced??! So I''ve asked her to send me the information they have about me on their records, she said she can''t do that. (Isn''t it part of the privacy act, that I have the right to know .. ?) Anyways, I went back to the store, where they advised me that the replacement phones are not new, they are reconditioned. It means it was defective before, they''ve fixed it and now giving it as replacement. Now my warranty expires soon, I don''t want a reconditioned phone, it might die in another 2 months, when I''m out of warranty. I''d like to have a working phone for my 100$+2 years contract. This is ridiculous! Is there anyone who could tell me where can I go to complain or have a resolution? Lawyer or Consumer Protection? Thanks in advance for any useful information.

go to the press, it always works =)
Not a big fan of this reporter (stories are simplistic and just reuses a lot of consumer report data) but it seems to work
Olsen on your side
BBB is really not useful. it's a paid membership and they can't do anything about it. more a watchdog nothing else.. sounds good in theory but practically nothing.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try Olsen, probably he can't help having a replacement phone, but at least I can vent out :) And it could be a good story, as there are so many ripoffs..

You're thinking of engaging a Lawyer for a $100 phone?
Why don't you cut your losses, sign up with TELUS and cause a stink outside Fido's Georgia and Homer Store with all the other customers who are lined up at 9:30AM to bring back their phones?
BTW: Most "reputable" carriers will sell you a warranty for $35.00 to cover replacement (NEW) phones, such as Rogers or TELUS.

yes, cut your losses but i'd still go to the press so that future customers won't be in the same situation as you.

I don't call that reputable -- I call that rip-off country. Why can't they sell something that works? Why do they sell something that they know the break down rate off? (If they know the breakldown rate is very close to zero, why not say so in the first place -- so they do know it is not close to zero)
Plus, are you sure there are not similar stories for 35$ warranties?

hah All cell phone retail outlet stores are rip off artists. My phone was one day over the warranty but LG said they'd honour it as long as I had the store call them. I gave it to this guy and he'd said he'd take care of it. Well he didn't call and when I called back two days later (because I hadn't heard from him) he said it was over the warranty and that they wouldn't help. I asked him if he called and he said why would he if they wouldn't honour it. I was furious because I told him that they said they would be happy to honour it and because he was lazy, I would loose my phone. Well he never dealt with it and I lost out. So then I thought well I'll buy a refurbished phone until my contract is up so I can get a new one. Stupidly I went back to him and he sells me this phone some guy brought back after a month and exchanged for a razor (or so he says). I ask him to transfer my address book and he wants to charge me $10 for it. I told him the last two times he did it for free and he tells me that then it only cost me $5 per time and I should just deal. What a prick! So I told him to go shove it! I bet he didn't even give the money to the company either. Probably pocketed it. He thinks he's a big man but all I'm thinking of how I'm not going back. I hate slimy sale people!

Fido is a huge rip-off; they sold me a crappy phone, and when I returned it for refund - 2 days later - they wouldn't refund me the price of the talk time. I called customer service and I asked the operator if it bothered him that Fido had just gotten something for nothing - and he said NO!! Can you imagine a company whose telephone monkey has these kinds of scruples?? I'd rather eat glass than give Fido any of my hard earned money!!
