Hello! Welcome to techvibes,

I was just wondering if you had a portfolio, or blog that potential employers could have a look at.

I just posted on my profile a link to my myspace profile
http://www.myspace.com/ericasweet
where i have a film loop of some of my work..
and also my email address erica_jorgensen@shaw.ca
so that I can send my portfolio in pdf form to those who want to see it
i hope those methods will suffice, because i'm too broke to set up my website right now! [:((]

Hi Erica,

A website is everything to potential employers and clients. You can get one for a few dollars per month.

Good luck!

where would i get a site that costs literally a few dollars per month? because i sure haven't found any that i can afford.
if by a few dollars per month you mean $15-$30 that's what i mean i can't afford - seriously, when you have no job, that is alot of money

Erica,

Send me a note at http://mediamainline.com/contact.htm with your web hosting requirements. I sell hosting packages starting at $7 (CAD) per month, though $15 - $30 will get you loads of webspace for your videos and file transfers. If you don't know exactly how much space you need, just tell me what you will put on the site, the way you will be saving/compressing any motion reels, etc.

Anyways, just contact me, and we can discuss that...

(PS, I won't post my prices here, because I do offer discounts to artists and designers for portfolio sites, being a Graphic Designer myself...)

Hi!

Try using the blog software wordpress. You can get a free account without ads on it at wordpress.com. The blog can be used as a content management system website as you can make "static pages" putting what you need on them. This may include for example a photogallery, or video etc... you can even link to your pdf to open in another window. I've seen ones even made into ezines! You're only limited by your imagination. And it's free!

Anyways, perhaps something to think about.....I have a portfolio blog myself and I quite like it.

good luck with your new career!

Good luck Erica.

I'm going out on a limb here and offering to connect you with someone who I appreciate. It won't necessarily lead to a job, she's just a fantastic individual who can potentially relate to where you are and may have some great ideas for you to explore. And then, you just never know... the company she is with, might have something that could suit you.

I'll wait for your contact, if you're interested, and email back her contact info.

Best of luck, Lee

Hi again!

I have some resources for you. I work at UBC and I have access to a lot of good resources for students and alumni so I'll pass them along to you if you are interested.

I recalled earlier a workshop that I had gone last March from the UBC Office of Learning Technology and they showed us an online tool called "KEEP toolkit" that can be used as an e-portfolio. This tool is intuitive and you can quickly make up a website of your school projects. You can add all sorts of formats such as video, pdfs etc... The idea is to develop a body of work as you study/learn/create. Creating an account is free.

The website is at:
http://www.cfkeep.org/static/index.html

Other resources:

UBC e-portfolio:
https://www.elearning.ubc.ca/home/index.cfm?menuClicked=4%2F&p=main/dsp_eport_index.cfm

UBC e-portfolio blog:

http://weblogs.elearning.ubc.ca/e-portfolios/

Description:
"Companies are increasingly seeing electronic portfolios as a way to demonstrate you have what it takes to do the job. E-Portfolios provide the evidence to support your resume and cover letter – and put your application at the top of the heap. In this hands-on session, we’ll get you started on your own e-Portfolio and show you how to get it online."

Hope this is useful.
