Assistant Web Coordinator

The Web Communications group of UBC Public Affairs is looking for an Assistant Web Coordinator to support UBC's content management strategy (CMS), web communication initiatives, and the strategic direction of major UBC web initiatives.

This is for a full-time, on-premise contract position, beginning as soon as possible and lasting until March 31, 2009.

Major responsibilities include:

  • working with university faculties, departments, and service units to implement content management solutions on UBC websites;
  • providing first line of assistance support and training to end-users;
  • working with clients and providing support for web related initiatives;
  • administering and maintaining client websites;
  • designing and developing new templates, interactive features and functionality for client websites;
  • providing reports and work summaries;
  • providing consultation and recommendations; and
  • performing other related duties.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in a relevant discipline or graduation from a recognized technical institute, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum three years of experience coordinating multiple web projects, in a complex organizational environment preferred.
  • Experience writing or editing web copy.
  • Experience with web design, user interface design and associated software (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Experience in technical support, technical instruction, or workshop facilitation preferred.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript and browser standards required. Knowledge of PHP and AJAX an asset.
  • Familiarity with web-based content management software or blogging applications an asset, particularly with modifying templates.
  • Knowledge of the university policies, goals, issues and mission an asset.
  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
