Configuration Management Engineer/IT Specialist

Reporting to the Operations Manager within the Systems group at AbeBooks, you will be involved with enhancing and introducing alternative effective configuration management techniques, tools, libraries and infrastructure for effective automated software project builds and deployment.

AbeBooks is seeking a Configuration Management/IT professional with proven technical expertise in software and hardware configuration management. You have 2 yrs experience working with state of the art automated build and deployment environments. You are accustom to a fast pace product release cycle and thrive in situations that draw upon your positive, problem solving approach in day-to-day work. You have demonstrated the ability to serve up configuration management solutions that meet development and quality assurance needs for effective configuration item version control and release management.
Requirements for this Position:
SCM Must Haves:
• Experience with automated SCM build(s), continuous build integration, verification and deployment process using tools such as Cruise Control, Anthill Pro, Ant, Maven or similar
• Promotion models, Branching strategies background and experience
• Extensive Documentation and Training Experience
• Third Party Compliance Experience (e.g. external API and tools integration)
• Process engineering background and experience (designing/developing SCM/HCM plans and associated procedures/instructions)
• Experience with Version Control tools (e.g. Ideally Subversion and Starteam,)
• Experience with Scripting languages (shell script, perl or similar)
• Understanding of Apache, Tomcat

IT Must Haves:
• System support and administration experience
• IT Lab management knowledge and experience
• OS Experience (Windows, Linux, Solaris)
• Understanding of Networking and IT Infrastructure (e.g. TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, NAS, SAN, Samba, NFS)

Other Must Haves:
• BS Computer science or related major
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Good communication skills;
• A Strong Team Player

Nice to Have:
• Solaris, Linux Software Packaging and install experience
• Development experience and knowledge using Java, XML
• Continuous Integration Tools and technologies such as Continuum, Fisheye, Crucible
• Understanding of Virtual environment management e.g. VMWare
• 3rd Party Technology experience – Sonic, Endeca, Coherence
• RDBMS Knowledge(Oracle, or similar SQL Server, MySQL)
• Understanding of Clustering, Load Balancing
• Working knowledge of the software development life cycle and requirements/project management processes (e.g. Agile Methodologies XP/Scrum/TDD, User Stories, Providing Estimates on work efforts)
• Wiki environment tool experience using Confluence or similar
• Issue Tracking tool experience using Jira or similar
• Agile Project management tool experience using VersionOne or similar
