The Product Manager is responsible for both product planning and product marketing. This includes managing the product throughout the product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with the development team to deliver winning products. It also includes working with sales, marketing and support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The Product Manager's job also includes ensuring that the product and marketing efforts support the company's overall strategy and goals.
You must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work with an development counterpart to define product release requirements. You will work with sales and marketing to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering, regularly working with the sales channel and key customers.
The Product Manager is expected to:
1. Manage the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
2. Specify market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers
3. Drive a solution set across development teams (primarily Development, and Marketing) through market requirements, product contract, and positioning
4. Develop and implement a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute
5. Analyze potential partner relationships for the product.
6. Define the product strategy and roadmap
7. Deliver technical specifications and use cases to Development with prioritized features and corresponding justification
8. Coordinate with Development to plan the release schedule
9. Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities
10. Be an expert with respect to the competition
11. Develop the core positioning and messaging for the product
12. Perform product demos to internal and external customers
13. Work with Marketing to set pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals
14. Develop sales tools and collateral
15. Act as a leader within the company
Required experience and knowledge
1. Minimum of 3 years experience as a Product Manager or Product Marketing Manager
2. Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
3. 2+ years of experience in a job in the SaaS market
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
5. Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred)
6. Technical background, with experience in SaaS or application development
7. Excellent teamwork skills
8. Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
9. Must be able to travel 25% of the time
