Software Developer (Android)

Software Developer (Android)

We’re Clio, and we’ve built the market-leading cloud-based legal practice management software. In short, we help lawyers live better lives and be awesome at what they do, with best-in-the-industry mobile apps.

Every job ad says, "we love shipping great code for our amazing customers, but we also love having fun." At Clio, we truly live those values: our product is used by tens of thousands of legal professionals every day, ranging from public defenders to human rights advocates and personal injury attorneys. And fun? In the last quarter we've thrown a tiki party, made an app for the Apple Watch just focused on sending GIFs, and contributed to the tech ecosystem by helping teach girls how to become tech geeks.

The best part is, we’re serious about what we do and we don’t mess around. We’re one of the best little-known talents in town, if not the whole country; whether you’re new to development or a seasoned veteran, there’s something to be said for coming to work knowing you're going to be able to learn from some of the best developers you've ever worked with on some of the most challenging problems a rapidly-growing, venture-backed firm can face.

We also really like GIFs and Nicholas Cage. If you've read this far and want to know about us, check out our labs blog, #teamclio tumblog, or social media presence.

You really care about code quality. You want to work with other motivated, smart people on hard problems; working at Clio is not easy! You rally together for your team and help others grow, through code review or mentorship or idea sharing. You cut code in whatever language you’re a pro at, but you really get mobile -- especially Android. You like testing your code, and ideally you don’t hate working with really smart other humans.

  • Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms; programming languages;
  • Excellent understanding for networking, concurrency, and threading;
  • Experience having your software used by thousands of users;
  • Strong development skills gained from getting apps into the Play Store;
  • Great team skills -- lone wolves aren't a great fit for us;
  • Strong understanding of the Android framework; components;
  • In-depth understanding of Android framework components and respective life cycles.

  • 4+ years of Software Engineering experience in a team environment.
  • Bring new ideas to the table to help make our environment better.
  • Have familiarity developing for both tablet and mobile.
  • Be constantly experimenting.
  • Know how to write code that performs at scale.
  • Help contribute to our culture. Games nights, ping pong, street fighter 2, beach volleyball league (on-premise), dodgeball team, whatever! Your contributions are welcome.

  • Apply, email, reach out, whatever - let us know you’re interested, why, and let us know what you're proud of building;
  • Come on in and see our (kick-ass) space, chat with the folks here, and enjoy some of our craft beer, on us;
  • Play with a test project we’ve got so we know where you stand;
  • Meet some of the team and talk about your work;
  • Get hired and profit $$$!

We should note: this role is open to all applicants authorized to work in Canada.
