TECHNICAL ANALYST

RESPONSBILIITES:

Work Management

o Allocate system resources for consistent system performance.

o Setup and manage workflow through the system (job scheduling, avoidance of record locks).

o Create and use CL programs.

o Monitor, maintain and interpret system performance and usage.

Software Installation and Maintenance

o Monitor third-party iSeries support team to ensure contractual obligations have been met (ie. PTFs, Data replication, error alerts).

Backup and recovery

o Assist in the design of the backup and recovery plan to meet system and application requirments.

o Assist in the design, testing and implementation of the disaster recovery plan.

o Implement and monitor journaling.

Security

o Administer third party Security Packages

o Create, modify and/or delete user and group profiles.

o Create, modify and/or delete directory entries and e-mail addresses.

o Implement IFS security.

o Activate security auditing - monitor and react to security violations.

Manage and Secure Network Connectivity

o Assist in the planning and implementation of communications cables, modems, lines, workstations, controllers, routers, bridges, hubs, switches, NIC cards and printers.

o Determine the system values settings that are needed for installation requirements: QCMNRCYLMT, QRMTSIGN, QAUTOVRT, QAUTOCFG.

o Create and maintain configuration objects (ie. Line device, DNS, DHCP, etc.)

o Experience in TCP/IP Application Servers such as: SNMP, DDM, FTP, SMTP, HTTP;

  • Additional experience in SSL, Encryption software, APPC connectivity, Virtual LAN and Opti-Connect,.

Database Administration

o understand database concepts (ie. Physical files vs. logical files).

o Implement database security.

o Identify, monitor and resolve database performance issues.

o Determine when and how to reorganize files.

Problem Management

o identify a problem source and take appropriate action using the system's problem management facility. Determine whether a failure is indicated by a SRC condition (System Reference Code) and take appropriate action.

o Identify and diagnose communication problems.

o Recognize potential security problems.

o Use history logs, job logs and journals to diagnose problems.

Solutions Design

o Collect information to evaluate the current computing environment.

o Analyze requirements for system performance and availability.

o Determine system connectivity requirements.

o Collect and analyze performance data.

o Evaluate compatibility of application software for the targeted hardware and its requisite operating system.

Websphere Application Server Administration

o good understanding of J2EE application model (ie. EJB's, JSP, HTTP sessions, servlets, etc.).

o good understanding of HTTP server concepts.

o Good system administration experience of operating systems (ie. Windows NT/2000, UNIX, OS/400, Linux, etc.)

o Good understanding of basic internet concepts (ie. Firewalls, web browsers, TCP/IP, SSL, etc.)

o Familiarity with the installation/configuration of the Application Server.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o A university degree or college diploma is required as well as a

minimum of 10 years experience providing Technical Support for iSeries Systems in a heterogeneous IT environment.

o Experience in TCP/IP Application Servers such as: SNMP, DDM, FTP, SMTP, HTTP, SSL, Encryption software including experience with Web Sphere Application Server and iSeries HTTP Severs(powered by Apache).

o Experience administering LPARS, HMC's and BRMS backup solutions

o Experience with performance analysis and capacity planning and iSeries Hardware implementation.

o Experience and strong working knowledge of CL programming, IFS administration and Security.

o Working knowledge of third party software such as ESEND, COMPLEO and Help Systems Suite of products.

o Experience using High Availability products for Role-Swap exercises and Disaster recovery testing.

o Knowledge of or experience with SEQUEL, SEQUELWI, MANTIS, PHP, Renaissance Framework.
