Vancouver Canucks Upgrade... off-ice

The Vancouver Canucks are outfitting GM Place with a unified communications system aimed at improving the fan experience and boosting staff productivity. The Canucks have just gotten underway with the three-year project and will use Nortel Networks product suite to bring voice, data and wireless LAN technologies together to upgrade the rink.

Fan experience? Instant replays and statistics delivered to your wireless device, mobile fan voting for the three stars, and concession stands will no longer run out of hot dogs.

Staff productivity? Enhancements in their ticket scanning system, RFID capabilities, security management and an improved wireless network. Most importantly, Canucks staff that move around the building frequently will now be able to carry a wireless companion phone - an extension of their desktop line. So if Mats Sundin's agent does finally call, Mike Gillis won't miss it.

Nortel’s role as the network equipment supplier for Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Olympic Games definitely played a factor as this new in-house system will be compatible with what VANOC overlays over top during the Games.
