It's Time For The Next Montreal NewTech Demo!

Whether you’re a die-hard tech enthusiast, entrepreneur, developer or a potential investor, the NewTech demo is where you should be tomorrow night.

The Montreal NewTech Demo is a FREE monthly event where 2-4 startups present their latest product/services for 5 minutes followed by 5 minutes Q&A + insightful discussions.

More than a mere networking event, it's a space for up and coming entrepreneurs to demo their ideas and products in front of an expert and enthusiastic audience.

The Montreal NewTech Demo is taking place tomorrow night at McKibbins Irish Pub on Bishop Street.  The event is held every first Tuesday of the month and goes from 6:00pm until 10:00pm.

Check out this months presenters, sign-up for the event and visit the Montreal NewTech demo website.

Yulbiz Montreal is Happening Tonight!

Are you a blogger or interested in starting your own blog?  Do you have a passion for online business and everything web 2.0?  Then look no further then Yulbiz Montreal.

This business blogging organization got it's start in 2006 and has inspired others like it in San Francisco, Paris, Brussels and other cities.  The event is mostly in French but is still an amazing networking opportunity for anyone who shares a passion in finance, new technologies, social web, mobile, and much more.

The event is sponsored by Tourisme Montréal and takes place at Jello Bar (5:30pm - 8:30pm).

If you would like to attend, check out the Yulbiz Montreal facebook event page and be sure to drop by their blog.

Don’t forget to bring some business cards, extra change for a few drinks and some interesting ideas.  This is a very informal gathering “where everyone has something to explain and something to learn.”

Montreal Startup Drinks - Time for another round

Montreal Startup Drinks will be taking place this Wednesday, March 31st at 5:30pm.  Since it’s introduction in the summer of 2008, many like minded/talented entrepreneurs have shared their ideas and introduced new startups over a few pints of beer.

The event happens on the last Wednesday of each month at the microbrewery Brutopia at 1219 Crescent Street (South of Ste-Catherine).

It's great to get together and figure out what we can do together that we can’t do on our own.  There are no presentations, no sponsors and no speakers - nothing to pull focus from what you need to accomplish.

If you’re a new startup here in Montreal, thinking of starting your own company, looking for a partner or just love to know what’s going on in the Montreal startup scene, this is an event that you will not want to miss.

Montreal Startup Drinks is hosted by Raymond Luk and Robin Ahn of Flow Ventures.

If you can't make it this Wednesday, the next meet will be on April 28, 2010. Check out Startup drinks on twitter and don’t forget to sign-up for the event.

Twestival Montreal - A huge success

Last night I had the opportunity to take part in Twestival Montreal, an event that brings together local online communities in an offline space to educate and build awareness around an important cause.

Over 175 Twestivals took place last night around the world and so far $311,696 has been raised.

Twestival™ (or Twitter Festival) uses social media for social good.  All of the local events are organized 100% by volunteers and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go direct to projects.

This years project was Concern Worldwide.

Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries.

The event took place at Bain Mathieu, which contains an empty swimming pool and where most of the mingling and tweeting took place.

A large projector screen was set-up and displayed the TwestivalMTL twitter feed.  Guests were “twitpicing” and “tweeting” all night long while other “I wish I was there” post’s found their way in.

A photo booth was also set-up and pics were posted live to the events flickr page.

David Usher performed on-stage while local sponsors made the evening memorable with food, drinks, music, art, and all kinds of great prizes – I should know, I won an iPhone.

At one point last night, #TwestivalMTL became the number one trending topic on twitter and is still trending as we speak.

The total amount of money raised by Twestival Montreal will be posted on their Twitter feed

Good job guys – you rock.

First Annual OpenMusiqueMédia Montréal

Last night I had the pleasure of checking out the first annual OpenMusiqueMédia Montréal at Auberge Le Saint-Gabriel (Bar le Velvet).

OpenMusicMedia is an informal meetup to discuss, explore and shape the future of digital music and media. The group serves as a meeting point for people with similar interests. It provides a relaxed and informal environment to start conversations and promote openness and learning.

OMMM is part of a “loose network” of already exsisting OpenMusicMedia groups, which was started in London, England.  Other groups are located in Belfast, Toronto and New York City.

OpenMusicMedia is a meetup specifically for people in the music industry but we try to encourage as diverse a range as possible. From people working at labels, to artists, to filmmakers, to bloggers, to web developers, to students. Anyone who is professionally or personally interested in the future of digital music and related media is welcome. The people who do come should do so without an agenda and we discourage self-promotion. The group could be as little as 10 people or as many as 100 people, as long as there’s a good conversation.

Topics of discussion included ideas in how to harness the power of social media to build relationships between undiscovered artists and their potential fans and new apps for music sharing.

OMMM’s organizers plan on holding the event on a monthly/bi-monthly schedule.  They also hope to have some interesting guest speakers present at the event in the future.

Check out OpenMusiqueMédia Montréal on twitter (@OMM_MTL) and visit the official OpenMusicMedia blog.
