The Coming Canadian Tech Renaissance

This Monday I went to the Labour Day classic Argos vs. TiCats CFL showdown. As I watched the unfurling of the largest Canadian flag ever, listened the screaming CF-18 overhead and sipped my Molson Canadian I couldn’t help think about the state of our tech scene in Canada.

I’ve been in this industry since the late 90s. When I showed up, the tech boom was in full swing. Everyone with a pulse was getting funded. Their was a booming tech IPO market in Canada. All good.

TELUS Health Acquires Electronic Prescription Technology

TELUS Health is adding important new functionality to its existing health technology portfolio through its acquisition of an interest in the underlying technology of the ZRx Prescriber from Quebec-based ZoomMed.

ZRx Prescriber is a web-based prescriber that allows physicians to use a mobile device to quickly and accurately write and deliver prescriptions for patients while accessing the patient’s insurance coverage information directly at the moment of prescription.

Montreal's Breather Raises $6 Million Series Round for Breathing Rooms In Major US Cities

Montreal's Breather announced today they have closed a $6 million Series A round led by RRE Ventures. Also contributing to the round are Real Ventures, SOS Ventures, and Gary Vaynerchuk.

Breather's total funding to date is $7.5 million.

The funds wll be used to expand Breather's network of "for-rent, amazingly designed, affordably priced, 24/7-accessible private spaces, in which busy urbanites can work, meet, relax in personal oasis of peace and quiet".

Self Care Catalysts Nets Funding from Rick Hansen Institute

Patient intelligence health solution provider Self Care Catalysts this week announced its health solution platform, Patient Storylines, will receive $100,000 in funding from the Rick Hansen Institute to support and engage people with acute spinal cord injuries.

Principal investigators Ben Mortenson, PhD and Patricia Mills, MD, of the University of British Columbia, and Jared Adams, MD, PhD, Chief Medical Officer of Self Care Catalysts will spearhead the Patient Storylines project.
